They often do not have any constructive indoor activities during those cold winter months where they are not able to go outside if it is below 30 degrees. The games are perfect for the amount of time they have after eating before heading back to class. Most of the students have seen or played Uno and Connect 4 but not many have ever played Blink. Blink gives students an opportunity to burn off some energy and the competition is exciting for them. The earbuds are small and easily fit into the computer pouch pocket. The earbuds can travel with the student throughout the day and go home. Before if they used school headphones, it was only for school use and they were much more bulkier to take along to different classes. Kids had big smiles on their faces when they got to choose the color earbuds. We are so grateful to have a comfortable space for students to have choice and their seating l, fidgets and how they process their feelings. It can be very difficult to regulate your emotions when you are at frustration this calming corner creates a fun and welcoming environments. It is very therapeutic. \r\n\r\nMy office space has multiple functions . It is a classroom, teacher resource room, and meeting area for not only students but at times teachers. Even when teachers arrive to the room, they often reply with how warm and welcoming it is. Many teachers take their prep time to enjoy the space when not in use by students\r\n\r\nIt is now winter benchmark assessments and students using the space to do the hard work of learning to read has shown positive gains. The students have gone from, \"I'm afraid to readand please don't call on me.\" to, \"I can do it. I just need a little help.\" \r\n\r\nThe most adorable statement when I talked with the student was when she told me \"Mrs. Alamillo I can now read 50% of the words on my fourth grade text.\" at the beginning of the year she said she couldn't read any.\r\n\r\n This space has created a place for them to do the hard work and they are growing and gaining great self-esteem. You may not think that a little space it looks like a clubhouse would have such an impact but it did. My students and staff are eternally grateful for your efforts and helping us succeed in making this amazing space for them to be able to process emotions be comfortable in learning and have a warm safe environment.
