My students loved reading the books together as a class and challenging themselves with difficult vocabulary. I truly believe that these books helped them not only make gains in their reading comprehension, but also open up an interest in other higher level chapter books. \r\nDue to the high interest in the books, the students were also very engaged in partner work. They referred back to the chapters and discussed events and made meaningful connections. We were able to do group projects based on the book as well. These books provided multiple learning opportunities in my classroom. This book was a bit higher for my class then anticipated and some students really struggled with it. When we met in small group, we went over the vocabulary words and gained a better understanding of the different perspectives we were reading about. Everything is not always going to be easy and fun but we worked together to make connections with the text. \r\n\r\nI remembered reading this as a child in elementary school and I hope that my students are able to have those memories when they are older. It was easy to follow and kept my students interested and asking to read day after day. It's hard to get their attention when reading a chapter book but this story did just that. \r\nMy students were also able to take an ar test on a book that was above their reading level and did amazing. Being able to share a love of reading and learning together helped to keep students motivated.
