These resources have quickly become an important part of our classroom community. Our calm down corner is located along the wall in the middle of the classroom, making it easily accessible to all students. While I initially guided students in using the space, it soon became a student-directed tool for self-regulation. The sensory bottles and calm down cloud light are favorites, and the pillows are used throughout the day. The lamp provides a cozy space where students can read calming books or use fidgets while they reset.\r\n\r\nWhen I first introduced the materials, the students cheered when they saw the fidgets! They were eager to explore the sensory bottles and breathing light. Together, we created expectations for the calm down corner and decided that three minutes was an appropriate amount of time to reset. Students practiced setting a timer and learned how to recognize when they needed a break.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments involved a student who was having a difficult time being away from his mom. He often became tearful during the school day. The weighted glow blanket quickly became his favorite comfort item. One day he wrapped up in the blanket and told me it felt like \"a big hug.\" The calm down corner gave him a safe place to regulate his emotions and return to learning. Throughout the year, teaching calm hands and calm bodies has helped students develop self-regulation skills, resulting in fewer office referrals and more time spent learning.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are continuing to teach students how to identify emotions, use self-regulation strategies, and solve problems independently. These resources provide meaningful opportunities for social-emotional learning every day. Thank you for helping create a classroom where students feel safe, supported, and empowered to manage their feelings. Your generosity has made a lasting impact on our kindergarten learners.","fullyFundedDate":1775424017539,"projectUrl":"project/kinder-calm-down-corner/10060488/","projectTitle":"Kinder Calm Down Corner","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Jacobsen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10103441_orig.png?crop=640,640,x13,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1769304503972","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10103441"},{"teacherId":9524723,"projectId":9463959,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generosity in funding our classroom library focused on diversity books.
