The students were elated. \"Now we don't have to mix everything by hand!!\"\r\nThey were able to work on their recipe for Potato Cheese Croquettes with ease. They turned out beautifully.\r\nBut when the Tilt-Head Stand Mixer arrived, they were so excited, there were so elated. Some were practically shouting their appreciation for the new equipment. (they were \"stoked\"! like when a teammate just hit a home run!)\r\nThe class anticipates using the new appliances for other recipes like traditional native Fry-Breads, cinnamon rolls, and so much more.\r\nMany, many thanks to all the individual donors and the Matching Fund Foundation donors.","fullyFundedDate":1747168803180,"projectUrl":"project/yes-blenders-for-culinary-arts-class/9142804/","projectTitle":"Yes! The goal of this school year is to transition the space from feeling institutional and dull to being an inclusive space that students see themselves in. \r\n\r\nWith over 50% of the student population identifying as Indigenous and the remaining students residing within the Klamath Tribes treaty boundaries, the shifts being made in the library are significant. I was shocked - repeatedly - by some of the outdated, heavily biased, and racist material I came across. Having new, updated, and more culturally accurate books creates a safer environment for all. \r\n\r\nThousands of books have been sorted through, while the remaining and newly bought/donated books have been reorganized on the emptied shelves! Now, it is common to see students excited to come into the library saying, \"Oh, new books!\" as they enter. However, those they are referring to are not \"new\" they are just newly out-facing and the students can see them. \r\n\r\nTeachers have told me \"It looks so beautiful in here! Now I know why my students are always asking to come down!\" After seeing the new chairs, one student stated \"Oh my gosh, I love this area!\" The very next day, another student sitting in the new reading area was told by their teacher \"ok, let's go\" and they responded, \"Dang it, I don't ever want to leave.\" \r\n\r\nThe feel of the room has already transitioned into being much more inviting. Students recently wrote a thank you letter that states the following:\r\n\r\n\"This is the best library ever!\"\r\n\r\n\"The library is now coziest its ever been!! Thank you!!\"\r\n\r\n\"Thanks for the chairs very much appreciated 🙂\"\r\n\r\n\"Thank you for the new chairs it makes the library much nicer to sit & read in.
