Because of you, my 5th graders now have hands-on access to place value blocks and real-world money manipulatives that are already transforming their learning.\r\n\r\nWhen our materials arrived, students could hardly contain their excitement. Several immediately began sorting and stacking the place value blocks, challenging each other to build the \"largest number possible,\" while others eagerly explored the coins and bills, testing if they could make exact amounts faster than their classmates. The room was buzzing with joy and curiosity!\r\n\r\nWe recently completed a multi-day math project using the manipulatives to deepen our work with decimals and money management. Students created small businesses—designing products, setting prices, and calculating change using the play money and base-ten blocks. One student said, \"It finally makes sense when I can build the number and see it!\" This hands-on experience helped many students strengthen their number sense and confidently connect abstract concepts to real-life scenarios.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be integrating these materials into an upcoming financial literacy and volume project. Students will apply their skills to compare prices, budget responsibly, and explore volume through building and modeling. These manipulatives will continue to support math learning throughout the year, especially as we move into multiplication/division of decimals and Ameritowne preparation.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping make meaningful, joyful learning possible. Your support truly makes a difference in the lives of our students every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1755521974557,"projectUrl":"project/help-stop-the-tears-send-math-manipulat/9449535/","projectTitle":"Help Stop the Tears: Send Math Manipulatives, Not Tissues","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bosco","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10072431_orig.jpg?crop=1690,1690,x0,y61&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1751931897393","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10072431"},{"teacherId":9251330,"projectId":9591849,"letterContent":"This year, I have two students in my class who are new to America. One moved here from Mexico, and the other moved all the way from Nepal! Neither student speaks English, and it has been interesting to work with them. The headphones that were purchased and donated to my classroom have been extremely helpful for helping these students access the technology we have to help them learn English.\r\n\r\nMy student who speaks Spanish gets to participate in a tutoring group every day where she works one-on-one with a tutor to help her learn English. She's been using the headphones since the second week of school, and last week she spoke a full sentence in English! She was so excited and proud of herself! I know a little Spanish and told her how proud I was of her for trying. She and I communicate in both Spanish and English, and with the use of the headphones, she's able to attend the tutoring sessions as well as listen to her favorite books in English and Spanish.\r\n\r\nMy student from Nepal's parents have asked us to use as much English as possible. Although he does not go to the same tutoring group as my other student, he does use his headphones every day to listen to books in English.\r\n\r\nI have also printed out and laminated common vocabulary cards in Spanish, Nepali, and English so my English language learners can see an item in the classroom along with the English word for it. Such as a table, desk, chair, whiteboard, restroom, and cubby. I also have some of my English-speaking students trying to read the Spanish/Nepali on the cards hung around the room.\r\n\r\nThe impact your donation has had on my class has been so positive. Although each student in my classroom has benefited from the items donated, I wanted to share how special the headphones are for my students learning English. Thank you very much.
