The tools you've provided serve a very powerful purpose in our classroom setting.\r\n\r\nThe liquid timers, for example, have become an incredibly effective tool for engaging students who are nonverbal or have limited speech. At least five of my students have shown an immediate and enthusiastic response to them. One student in particular, who is completely nonverbal, lights up when using the timers—carefully watching the colors fall, waiting patiently for them to finish, and then joyfully shaking them up to start again. For these students, the timers are not only soothing but also help with attention, emotional regulation, and cause-and-effect understanding.\r\n\r\nAnother huge hit has been the headphones. One student, who rarely uses complete words, immediately recognized them and said, \"Headphones!\" with excitement. Another student was visibly thrilled to use them—excited not just by the new item itself, but by what it enabled: a more focused, comfortable sensory experience during learning time.\r\n\r\nThese seemingly small tools have become some of the most exciting and motivating elements in our day. They help create a more inclusive, sensory-friendly learning environment where every student, regardless of their ability to speak, can engage and thrive.\r\n\r\nThank you again for helping us create moments like these.","fullyFundedDate":1756676508663,"projectUrl":"project/supporting-calm-minds-in-our-life-skills/9422920/","projectTitle":"Supporting Calm Minds in Our Life Skills Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Swearer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10049294"},{"teacherId":10049294,"projectId":9394028,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our classroom has been completely transformed—creatively, socially, and practically. The screen printing machine you helped fund isn't just a piece of equipment—it's a hands-on tool that empowers our Life Skills students to create something meaningful with their own two hands.\r\n\r\nMany people think of technology as screens and software, but this kind of technology is different—it's tactile, functional, and incredibly engaging for our learners. It bridges the gap between academic learning and real-world application. Students are now designing and printing their own shirts for field trips, giving them a sense of pride, identity, and safety. Not only does this make our group easier to identify in the community, but it gives students ownership in something visible and lasting.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting parts is watching students light up when they see their designs come to life. For many of them, this is their first time creating a product from start to finish—and wearing it with pride. One student in particular, who usually has a hard time staying focused, has truly found his stride with the printing process. He now eagerly asks when our next shirt day is and takes the lead in walking others through the steps.\r\n\r\nThis project has made learning feel real, relevant, and joyful.
