This is how I intend to use all the materials.
Some of my students have issues where they are acutely sensitive to sensory overload. Background noise can be a nuisance and cause major difficulties when it comes to processing information and sorting the important from the unimportant. There are few quiet chill-out zones to take a break from the sensory backwash of the public space that is the classroom. This especially rings true for my classroom and others at my school where there may be anywhere from 20 to 40 students in a class. The over-ear noise-cancelling ear muffs are great for when the classroom noise level is high and disquieting for some of my students.
For my students that are continually distracted, can’t sit in their chair, have stress and anxiety, or can’t listen, they will benefit from the fidget toys that I have added, such as the chair bands and squeeze balls. These tools help their bodies’ self-regulate, stay calm and focus.
Color has been found to play a significant role in enhancing memory performance and can be very effective in the educational setting. It can help students to follow and understand the lesson better and has been shown to improve reading scores. This is why I would like the colored printer paper to print their notes and other learning materials on.
I would like to use the laminating sheets for two reasons, one would be to create class sets of erasable sheets where they can analyze excerpts and political cartoons and erase their thoughts for the next class. The other is to show case class work.
Currently I only have one sharpener in my class of over 140 students and is on its last leg. I need another to help relieve the burden of the other sharpener.
