I strive to choose picture books that are relatable to young readers and have great social and emotional lessons that can be tied to each story. \r\n\r\nThe \"food group\" books, as many lovingly call them, have been a great addition to my classroom library. The students particularly loved relating to the Couch Potato character who's passion in life is playing video games and using technology. When the power goes out at his home, he is forced to explore nature and the world around him. The students and I talked about the positives of technology and the benefits of also being in nature. I challenged them to look out the window on long drives, play outside during nice weather, and finding a screen-free activity that they enjoyed. \r\n\r\nAnother book which created a lot of excitement was, \"The Museum of Lost Teeth\". It is a newer book that I had seen at my own local library that I knew I wanted to add to my classroom collection. In the story a child's beloved tooth falls out and the story follows the tooth to \"the museum of lost teeth\". Typically students in Kindergarten have lost a tooth or have several wiggly teeth waiting to fall out. I used this story in February to kick off dental health month. I paired it with our lost tooth chart, a print-out story that they could take home with ways to have healthy teeth, and the students made tooth crowns! They loved the activities and thought the story was cute! \r\n\r\nAgain, I cannot thank the donors enough for caring about the students and providing excellent new books to complement some of the lessons I wanted to implement in the classroom. It has been so much fun looking for new ideas and adding these books into the curriculum.","fullyFundedDate":1733266630042,"projectUrl":"project/bringing-excitement-to-the-classroom-lib/8913630/","projectTitle":"Bringing Excitement to the Classroom Library!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Dillon","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9501526_orig.jpg?crop=432,432,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1711561454140","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9501526"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_63020","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":892,"numTeachers":55,"percentFrplEligible":36,"percentAsian":18,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":68,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 2","studentTeacherRatio":"16.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":73.4,"schoolId":63020,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Chartiers Valley Primary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Chartiers Valley Primary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/pennsylvania/chartiers-valley-school-district/chartiers-valley-primary-school/63020"}
