Students work towards perfect weekly attendance in an effort to qualify for a chance to win the PS5. Our overall daily attendance improved \r\nreaching 95% attendance and higher. \r\n\r\nStudents were excited to enter the raffle tickets in two hour prize boxes. No doubt our level of attendance challenge was a true success.\r\n\r\nStudents gravitated towards the green boxes every Friday to submit their entry ticket.\r\n\r\nIn the end, we had three grand prize winners. Our Student, who won the PS5 had an attendance rate of 100% our other two winners who won equally awesome prizes had attendance rates above 96%.\r\n\r\nI know that the attendance challenge and the highly coveted prize was the reason for this success. \r\n\r\nOur students were winners in more ways than one; they improve their attendance, participated and engaged in school, and in the end, learned that their school and community are here for them providing recognition for their hard work.","fullyFundedDate":1758846552337,"projectUrl":"project/level-up-win-a-ps5-for-perfect-attendan/9586712/","projectTitle":"Level up: Win a PS5 for perfect attendance","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Valdivia","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8342792_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1716256366876","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8342792"},{"teacherId":10171530,"projectId":9653016,"letterContent":"Thank you not only for providing these wonderful new books for our classroom, but also for contributing classroom décor that helps make our space feel like a true learning environment. Your generosity has transformed our room into a place that feels warm, welcoming, and inspiring; a space where students are excited to learn each day.\r\n\r\nThanks to your support, these new books have already made a meaningful difference for my students. Beyond sparking excitement, the texts introduce and reinforce key reading skills such as building vocabulary through context, identifying main ideas and supporting details, making inferences, and discussing characters' motivations and themes. Many of the books also expose students to diverse perspectives and experiences, helping them strengthen empathy and critical thinking while they read.\r\nReading in our classroom is active and joyful. Students read independently, in small groups, and during read-alouds, often stopping to ask questions, make predictions, or share connections. To deepen comprehension, students have also completed one-page book report summaries, which encourage them to reflect on what they've read, organize their thoughts, and communicate their understanding in writing. The new books are frequently in students' hands during choice reading time, and it's common to see them recommending favorites to classmates or rereading a story they loved. These texts have helped create a classroom culture where reading feels engaging rather than intimidating.\r\n\r\nMy students have been especially excited about the new books. They recognize themselves or their interests reflected in the stories. Seeing students grow in confidence and enthusiasm has been incredibly rewarding, and it wouldn't be possible without your support. Also, they love seeing their finished projects on display in the new glass cases. So many students have since come to the library to ask how to borrow materials. We ran our Chess Invitational Tournament this semester and it was such an enjoyable experience. Many students started out as novices and, over the course of a month, learned how to do advanced moves. Additionally, they have used library books to check the rules or techniques. I am especially grateful for the opportunity to maintain routines and traditions here at Drew MS: our library and media materials make us stand out, fostering a welcoming and safe third space.\r\n\r\nThis is only the beginning, the library is set to start Spring semester with more manga, more chess boards, Lego sets, and more.
