We prepared for the various events in after-school sessions -- approximately 2 sessions a month from November until May. In the logic competition, every student on our 24 student decathlon team participated in solving six different types of logic problems - four problems of each type. They had 50 minutes to solve all 24 problems, and they worked together in small groups, submitting final answers to a team captain who then took them to a time-keeper. \r\n\r\nIn the logic category (and also overall), our team came in 3rd place! This is an extra special victory for me because our middle school is the smallest and lowest-performing in our district. We had the lowest number of participating students in the program, which ended up creating our entire decathlon team. Other schools chose their team from a much larger pool of students. We also had only one facilitator, while other schools had two or three facilitators available to assist students with training and preparation. With all of this stacked against us, rising to 3rd place was very exciting, and the students were thrilled to come home with various ribbons from the different competition categories.\r\n\r\nYour generous donation helped our team to better prepare for the competition by putting actual logic books in their hands, which they worked on at home in-between training sessions. Several students even brought them to the competition and worked on more problems during wait time! It was exciting to see them develop a love for this type of problem-solving and feel confident bringing these skills to the competition. I am so thankful for your gift to our school and our students.","fullyFundedDate":1731556410066,"projectUrl":"project/this-is-the-logical-choice-for-funding/8925729/","projectTitle":"This Is the Logical Choice for Funding!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Waage","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9651074"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_25695","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":437,"numTeachers":22,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":8,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":89,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"19.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":65.3,"schoolId":25695,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Jones Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Jones Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/baldwin-park-unified-school-district/charles-d-jones-junior-high-school/25695"}
