By providing my students with current, up-to-date articles through Scholastic News, the students are better able to have conversations with one another about events that are happening right now. They are at a fourth grade reading level, which allows for almost all of my students to access the information independently or with minor support. Those that are not at a fourth grade reading level are still able to partner with another peer or read these articles with an adult or older sibling at home.\r\n\r\nMy students want to be well-informed. They want to understand what is happening in the world around them and how to be a contribution to society. They are now able to read about these current events, tie to them events in history, and figure out how to use this information to potentially make a change. I'm working on specifically finding articles in the Scholastic magazines that tie into our current reading, writing, social studies, science and math curriculum so that my students can see that what we are doing in school is not learned in a silo, but it can be applied to \"real life.\" \r\n\r\nWe appreciate you so much!","fullyFundedDate":1758165516577,"projectUrl":"project/help-me-foster-critical-thinking-through/9602121/","projectTitle":"Help Me Foster Critical Thinking through Current Events","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. DeBoli","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1916647_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1717296152021","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1916647"},{"teacherId":10222192,"projectId":9648179,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for these amazing new resources! My students have been so excited to have new resources to use and to have more snacks to choose from! Those students whose families cannot afford to send them a daily snack have been excited to pick from the variety of snacks we now have in our class. Thank you also for the glue sticks! Those are invaluable resources in a kindergarten room and we go through so many of them each year! The students love to glue things, and we do a lot of tasks where the students are asked to cut and glue.\r\nMy students have especially loved using the kinetic sand with the sea animals that came and the playdough with our new playdough rollers. Having new playdough has been wonderful, as we have used it in a variety of ways. From making letters with the playdough, to using it during math to count, to students having access to some when they need a few minutes to calm down. The plastic art trays have been perfect for the students to use their kinetic sand and playdough in because they help to contain the mess of these items and make clean up much easier.\r\nThe students have made some magnificent art with our new watercolors. There were amazing to receive because some of our old ones had colors mixed in the different paint spots. The students have enjoyed having watercolor paints available during our choice time, so they can have creative freedom to create whatever artwork they want to. The students love showing myself and their friends what they create each day.","fullyFundedDate":1760469241276,"projectUrl":"project/help-us-succeed-in-kindergarten/9648179/","projectTitle":"Help Us Succeed in Kindergarten!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Martin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10222192"},{"teacherId":5155042,"projectId":9683961,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contributions to our outdoor PE project! For many of my students, especially those with sensory needs, these new tools have created a space where they feel comfortable, safe, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments was seeing a student who usually struggles to focus during work time really focus when they were given the vibrating dog stuffed animal. The weighted stuffed animals and vibrating puppy have become instant favorites for students who need extra comfort when they feel overwhelmed. The noise-cancelling earmuffs have also been a huge help during loud transitions—students can now choose to put them on when the environment feels too stimulating.\r\n\r\nWe've incorporated the Pop & Link sensory beads into our math and fine motor skill activities, helping students strengthen coordination and concentration through play. It's been amazing to see them engage with one another and practice teamwork while using these fun, hands-on materials.\r\n\r\nThe next step for our class is to continue building self-regulation skills and confidence through these sensory supports. We're planning a \"Calm Corner\" project where students can use the weighted plush toys, lamps, and fidgets independently whenever they need a break—helping them learn strategies to manage emotions and return to learning more focused and calm.\r\n\r\nYour kindness has truly made our classroom a more inclusive and joyful space.
