The Scholastic magazines allow students to read about current events in a way that is age-appropriate and interesting. They are learning how to identify the main idea, analyze informational text, build vocabulary, and make connections between what they read and what is happening in the world around them. The historical fiction novels also give students a chance to experience history through stories, which helps them understand historical events, practice inference, and build stronger comprehension skills.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom has become much more active and discussion-based. Students read independently, in small groups, and sometimes together as a class. We pause to talk about new vocabulary, ask questions about the text, and make predictions about what might happen next. With the magazines, students often read an article and then discuss how it connects to topics we are learning in social studies or things they have heard about outside of school.\r\n\r\nThe current event topics spark curiosity and lead to great conversations, while the historical fiction stories make history feel real and relatable. Your support has helped create a classroom where reading is not just an assignment, but something students learn from every day.","fullyFundedDate":1764683063483,"projectUrl":"project/literacy-across-subjects/9664034/","projectTitle":"Literacy Across Subjects","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Brooks","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8638030"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_12285","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":511,"numTeachers":39,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":29,"percentWhite":45,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":19,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"13.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":63.2,"schoolId":12285,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Central Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Central Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/louisiana/ascension-parish-schools/central-middle-school/12285"}
