My students and I are extremely thankful and grateful. Being a first-year teacher can be stressful at times, especially if you lack equipment or supplies that will help your students. Having said that, I appreciate you funding a new carpet for my school. This purchase allowed me to provide a safe environment for my students to learn and grow in my classroom. It gives students a comfortable place to sit, lay down, and play, especially during group activities, and it also helps me create a welcoming classroom environment. \r\n My students are unique in that they range in age from 5 to 11 years old and are not only interested in learning science, but will also participate in STEAM activities that will help them develop social-emotional skills such as teamwork and leadership, both of which are valued at our charter school. We watch a lot of videos as a warm-up, and now they have the opportunity and privilege to come to the carpet and be front and centre during these videos. I also teach gifted and talented students from kindergarten to fifth grade, and we now have the option to work on the carpet in small groups. Finally, I teach STEAM to first, second, and third graders, and I can teach them on the carpet as well. Receiving this present exposed my students to tactile experiences as well as visual stimuli, encouraging exploration and discovery. \r\n My students' eyes brightened up on the first day we received the carpet. Teachers from other classes came by to compliment this gift as well. My students can now feel the soft texture of the carpet under their feet while appreciating the colours and patterns, and they can sit and lay down on it comfortably.
