They also had the chance to answer questions to assess their understanding. One group chose to perform skits, challenging their classmates to identify whether they were demonstrating acts of kindness or selfish behavior.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the students were tasked with performing acts of kindness at home for a week. We have volunteers in the building who wash clothes weekly for the students if needed, but when they are sofa surfing, going from house to house, they tend to lose their possessions. \r\n\r\nHaving uniforms available, including fresh socks and underclothes, made the students smile and eager to come to the building and learn. We started offering Sweet Treats for Attendance Success right after we returned from Spring Break so that we could end the year strong. \r\n\r\nSo far, we already have had two Friday reward days! Each week, the students who were present for the entire week that week get to choose a special treat. The Attendance Team travels to each classroom so that those children who were there that week can feel recognized and be excited, but so that the other children also get to see that good things happen for those students who come to school daily. The students were most excited for the wiggle stool, and I have had students who are three years old all the way through eleven years old use it since it has adaptable heights. Certain students use it consistently in my office and also borrow it to bring into other therapy rooms because they like it so much. It definitely helps focus them, and older students have said it is calming to use. \r\n\r\nI have created many social stories for our students who need to know what to expect in certain social situations, made first/then reward boards, printed core language boards to help students communicate, and put together visual schedules. It has been great to know that I don't need to try to prioritize what is printed in color vs. black and white or whether the cardstock should be saved since I was able to get more ink and a ream of the heavy duty paper.\r\n\r\nI personally feel much better about the students entering my clean room, and sitting or laying down on my carpet for a break if needed, since I have been able to use the vacuum. And the vacuum has come in very handy for cleaning up after play doh and sensory activity fun!
