My students absolutely LOVED opening the Lego boxes and selecting which flower they wanted to make. It was so great to be able to also use the activity as an object lesson. With building the Lego flowers, we stressed the importance of following directions one step at a time and not skipping ahead. If they began to get frustrated, they were prompted to identify in that moment any signals their body was giving them, name the emotion they were experiencing, and use one of our strategies to regulate. Because they had their newly created flowers, it made it so much easier for them to visualize and use \"flower breath,\" an easy technique to help regulate! \r\n\r\nI also love to be able to share with parents and teachers what their students are learning in their counseling sessions so that they know the vocabulary and can share it with them. The visuals that lay out the Zones of Regulation help other people to cue my students at times when I am not there to identify their zone or emotion, and choose a corresponding feeling. This really helps my students start to internalize what we are learning, and apply it so they can generalize it. I can't wait to hear from my students and their families about how helpful it was to have this resource.
