When the new math materials arrived, my students could hardly contain their excitement. They immediately began exploring the colorful manipulatives, place value charts, and fraction tiles, eager to dive into new math challenges. \r\nOne of our favorite moments were during small-group rotations — students were able to physically see and build toy cars which helped them understand the concept far better than before. These tools have made abstract ideas more concrete and have built students' confidence in tackling new skills.\r\n\r\nStudents are learning how explain their reasoning, and work collaboratively to solve real-world math tasks. Our next goal is to start a \"Math Lab\" rotation where students apply their learning through games, puzzles, and projects using these resources.","fullyFundedDate":1659480599475,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-engineering-and-math-projects-f/6561966/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Engineering and Math Projects for Kids","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Zavala","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6337184"},{"teacherId":6337184,"projectId":7829774,"letterContent":"Thank you! My students have been deeply engaged in reading and learning through our new classroom books. These texts have allowed us to explore a variety of reading skills — from identifying main ideas and making inferences to analyzing character traits and understanding theme. We've also practiced vocabulary development and discussion skills as students share their thoughts and predictions during small-group reading sessions. The new books have made it possible to provide students with texts that match their interests and reading levels, helping each child feel confident and motivated to read.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom has truly come alive! Students participate in partner reading, literature circles, and guided reading groups. They are learning to annotate text, discuss evidence from the story, and connect what they read to their own experiences. It's been amazing to see how our reading corner has become one of the busiest spots in the room — filled with laughter, curiosity, and thoughtful conversations about books.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have shown remarkable enthusiasm since we received these books and have dove into the Judy Blume series. One student who was once hesitant to read now finishes a chapter and can't wait to talk about what happened next. Another student discovered her love for reading and is asking for more books like The tales of the 4th Grade Nothing. These moments remind me how powerful reading can be when students have access to books they can connect with. When my kindergarteners first walked in and saw the new ball chairs, yoga ball seat, floor cushions, and cozy seats, their faces lit up with joy and curiosity. They were so eager to try each one. Some bounced excitedly on the ball chairs, others cozied up on floor cushions with books, and a few experimented with switching seats as they explored their favorites.\r\n\r\nFlexible seating has given my students the freedom to choose how they learn best. During center time and table work, they now move naturally around the room settling into a ball chair to work on handwriting, curling up with a cushion during quiet reading, or sitting low to the ground with a lapboard and a peer during math games. This freedom to move, wobble, and reset their bodies has made such a difference in their focus, engagement, and self-regulation. For many of my students, especially those with big energy or sensory needs, this has been a game-changer in helping them feel more in control of their learning.\r\n\r\nWe wrapped up our end-of-year \"All About Me\" writing projects, and it's been such a joy to watch students choose their preferred seats and dive into their storytelling with pride and comfort. These resources will continue to support their growth into independent, confident learners for years to come.
