I am so grateful; but more importantly, our girls are. They have stated that they have learned so much important information about taking care of their bodies; and now, through your generous donations of hygiene and feminine care products, they feel empowered to take control of their self-care. \r\n\r\nBy donating to our project, every one of our participants received their own self-care packages complete with basic feminine care products. The girls took one package home and kept a small bag in their lockers for emergencies. It's so nice to see the confident look on their faces, knowing they are able to take care of their needs. The informational session even opened the door for difficult conversations about how to tell a friend about their body odors. Since the sessions, none of our girls have struggled with body odor. \r\n\r\nMiddle school girls of color face daily challenges that adversely affect their self-esteem, mental health, social participation, and ultimately their academic progress. One of the biggest challenges for some of our girls is limited access to basic self-care products. Our Girls of Color Alliance is a group of middle school girls who are committed to changing this trajectory in our school. Since learning more about self-care they have been sharing what they learned with their peers. They are planning to host a self-care spa party for younger girls this spring. Your generosity, support, and investment into our Girls of Color Alliance is so appreciated.","fullyFundedDate":1733438465057,"projectUrl":"project/self-care-packages-for-teen-girls/8911354/","projectTitle":"Self-Care Packages for Teen Girls","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Beckley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5775144_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753143205191","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-collins-beckley"},{"teacherId":3335840,"projectId":9037166,"letterContent":"My class was so appreciative of the help provided in funding our Wiggling, Wobbling and Wise project. Hygiene is a challenge for our middle school girls in our community. On a daily basis there are students who don't have the hygiene supplies they need to properly care for themselves. In additon to lacking supplies, many students lack the knowledge of how to properly care for their bodies. This has been a big concern for the girls in our Girls of Color Alliance. This year they made it their mission to educate themselves and their friends about the importance of self-care and proper hygiene. The girls have shared that hygiene is not an easy topic to discuss with others without offending them or causing harm. So the girls formed a self-care planning team and began to troubleshoot respectful ways of addressing these issues with their peers. They discussed many ideas including a hygiene talk, skincare testimonials, a spa party, and distributing self-care packages with feminine care products. \r\n\r\nAfter much planning, the girls invited a guest speaker to present a talk on proper hygiene. The speaker shared an easy to understand and engaging presentation which also included ideas on how to talk with friends and peers who struggle with hygiene. Many of the girls stated that they had learned something new, weven those who felt they had good hygiene practices. The girl also prioritized providing the products necessary to practice good self-care. That's where your donations have made the greatest impact. The girls were able to make and distribute 24 self-care packages that included much needed feminine care products. The packages were beautiful as well as functional. The packages created so much interest from girls in other grades (4th-6th), that now our 7th-8th grade girls are now considering how they can spread their lessons learned to younger girls. \r\n\r\nThank you again for your generous donations and for your interest in supporting tween girls of color. When I told them about your donations, they were in awe that people they don't even know would support their vision. That realization is heart-warming for me as well as them.","fullyFundedDate":1731255350295,"projectUrl":"project/feminine-hygiene-supplies-for-tween-girl/8911540/","projectTitle":"Feminine Hygiene Supplies for Tween Girls","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Beckley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5775144_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753143205191","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-collins-beckley"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_37724","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":265,"numTeachers":18,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":85,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"14.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":68.9,"schoolId":37724,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Cass Street School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Cass Street School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/wisconsin/milwaukee-public-schools/cass-street-school/37724"}
