Each day is a new discovery. The science books you provided invite students to explore big ideas—weather patterns, plant life cycles, animal habitats, space, force and motion, and basic experiments—in ways that feel joyful, age-appropriate, and accessible. \r\n\r\nSome of the skills introduced by our new texts are: Asking and answering questions (\"Why does it rain?\" \"How do seeds grow?\"), understanding cause and effect (What happens if a plant doesn't get sunlight?), using pictures to support comprehension, and learning new vocabulary through context and visuals.\r\n\r\nThe books live in our science center, where students choose titles to explore independently or with a partner. They sit together, pointing to pictures, retelling information, and making connections to things they've observed at home or outside. Although they all aren't able to read, they are able to identify high frequency words and notice punctuation.\r\n\r\nThe response from my students has been absolutely wonderful. Several children who were once hesitant readers are now gravitating toward the science shelf with excitement and pride:\r\n\r\nThere is one student—usually very quiet and reserved—who now carries the animal books to every available reading space. He flips through the pages with such concentration, pointing out new details each day. He eagerly shares facts with the class during morning meetings, something he never felt confident doing before. These books have not just supported literacy; they have given him a new voice.\r\n\r\nAnother student, who usually struggles to stay focused during independent reading, is now fully absorbed when exploring books about weather and natural phenomena. He loves comparing the illustrations to what he sees out the window and has started using new vocabulary words like \"storm,\" \"windy,\" and \"temperature\" with surprising confidence. The books have given him a sense of purpose during reading time.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has done far more than place books on a shelf. You have helped build vocabulary and early reading skills, sparked curiosity and strengthened critical thinking, and ignited a love for science. Most of all, you have shown my students that people outside their classroom believe in them. That matters more than you may ever know.
