Thanks to generous local donations we were able to stock the cupboards with assorted food and hygiene items, as well as packaged meal kits. These cabinets provide a clean, secure location to house these important items.\r\n\r\nWe have located our Cobra Cupboards near our Guidance Office and our Cafeteria to maximize the number of students who have easy access to the cupboard. We have shared our mission with our students and their families in hopes that more families can benefit from this program. Though we are still in the early stages, we have had two weeks of consistent usage for both food and hygiene items. A student told me just yesterday that the Cobra Cupboard is one of the only reasons they come to school as there is no food security at home.\r\n\r\nWhile supporting students in need is critical, this project is also engaging other students in our school. Each week students volunteer their time to inventory each cabinet and restock it from donations we have received to complete community service hours. Our Culinary Arts teacher has also tasked her students with preparing the meal kits to be sampled, providing feedback on both the difficulty of making the dish and the taste. In the coming weeks, those same Culinary Arts students will be asked to develop their own shelf stable meal recipes that can be used in the future. The Cobra Cupboard is also drawing support from our student council, our National Honor Society, and our staff making it a much larger project that I originally envisioned.\r\n\r\nI am eternally grateful for the support from our donors who helped to give this project its start.
