Your contribution has made a real difference in our classroom and has helped bring classic literature to life for my students.\r\n\r\nThrough The Great Gatsby, my students learned to analyze complex themes such as the American Dream, identity, and social class. We also focus on literary skills like close reading, symbolism, and understanding historical context. These lessons helped students build critical thinking, analytical writing, and discussion skills that prepared them for college-level reading and writing. We also analyzed the variants between the written literature and the depiction through the 2013 film.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is an interactive and engaging experience. Students read aloud, annotate, and participate in Socratic discussions to deepen their overall understanding of the text and the skills and concepts listed above. We often connected the novel's ideas to modern-day issues, which helped students see how literature remains relevant today.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who don't usually enjoy reading were particularly drawn to this novel—especially by Gatsby's mysterious character and the emotional complexity of his story. They expressed excitement about the class discussions and shared insightful interpretations that show real growth as readers.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has helped create these moments of connection and discovery. Thank you for supporting my students and their love of learning.","fullyFundedDate":1758202961531,"projectUrl":"project/the-roaring-20s-in-2025/9641223/","projectTitle":"The Roaring 20s in 2025!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Davis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10216603"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_107177","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":592,"numTeachers":32,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":42,"percentWhite":23,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":19,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 10","studentTeacherRatio":"18.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":64.9,"schoolId":107177,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about The Capitol Encore Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"The Capitol Encore Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/north-carolina-department-of-education/capitol-encore-academy/107177"}
