New technology is emerging daily and this generation of students are far more advanced with technology the ever before. My students need tablets because they currently have little to no technology in the classroom. I have twenty students and only two laptops that rarely work. They need technology to evoke a new way of thinking and to assist them in capturing and implementing their own creativity in various forms.
As a teacher I believe that all students do not learn the same and it is my job to provide them with several outlets to express themselves and to assist them with learning. I like the Idea of using tablets because applications such as Epic, Raz Kids and Homer can be downloaded to help children with reading, spelling, letters, letter sounds and rhyming. Also tablets allow the students to disperse in the classroom and have the privilege to experience flexible seating verses being confined to a chair and a table during reading and centers.
Also several activities in reading, math, science and social studies involve QR codes. Teaching the students how to use the QR codes with a tablet is much easier for them to grasp, which makes learning more efficient and cuts down on the need for assistance, thus giving me more time to focus on my small groups.
