For a long time, I've watched these brilliant kids try to create amazing things on furniture that just wasn't up to the task. To see their eyes light up when they realized they finally had a real workshop was a moment I won't soon forget. They weren't just excited about \"new stuff\"; they felt seen. One of my regulars, a particularly ambitious 7th grader, ran his hand across the smooth, solid surface of a new table and whispered, \"We can actually build for real now.\" It was a powerful reminder that when we provide kids with quality tools, we're telling them that their ideas matter.\r\n\r\nThe change in the \"vibe\" of our room has been immediate. Just yesterday, I watched a group of my youngest learners working alongside some of our 8th graders. In the past, I would have been hovering constantly, worried about a table tipping or a stool slipping while they worked with their hands. Instead, I was able to step back and actually engage with their creativity because the environment was finally safe and stable. They were leaning into their work—literally and figuratively—without a single wobble or \"watch out!\" It has turned our chaotic \"makeshift\" room into a focused, professional space where the only thing shaking is the excitement of a breakthrough.\r\n\r\nWe are just getting started! Now that we have a foundation we can actually trust, our next step is moving into more complex, heavy-duty construction. We're finally ready to use heavier materials and more specialized tools that require a rock-solid base. Because of your generosity, my students are no longer limited by the four legs of a shaky table; they are only limited by their own imaginations. Thank you for believing in my kids and for giving them the safe, sturdy home their creativity deserves. We are so incredibly grateful!","fullyFundedDate":1768505139284,"projectUrl":"project/remake-our-makerspace/9888334/","projectTitle":"Remake our Makerspace!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hansen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2456975_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1468022419692","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2456975"},{"teacherId":2456975,"projectId":9697766,"letterContent":"3D printers have become a cornerstone of our Makerspace, transforming ideas into tangible creations and deepening STEM learning across campus. Students are no longer limited to sketches or models made from cardboard—they can design, prototype, and produce real objects. This hands-on access makes abstract STEM concepts concrete, increases student engagement, and empowers learners to see themselves as engineers, designers, and problem-solvers.\r\n\r\nThe integration of 3D printing naturally reinforces the engineering design process. Students begin by asking questions and identifying problems, then imagine and plan solutions using digital design tools. They create, test, and refine their designs through multiple iterations, learning that failure is not an endpoint but an essential step in improvement. This iterative cycle builds perseverance, critical thinking, and an authentic understanding of how engineers work in the real world.\r\n\r\nAll grade levels across campus benefit from 3D printing in the Makerspace. Younger students explore foundational concepts like shapes, measurement, and cause-and-effect, while older students tackle complex challenges involving precision, functionality, and constraints. From Kindergarten curiosity to middle school innovation, 3D printers provide a shared tool that unites the campus in meaningful STEM experiences and supports a culture of creativity, collaboration, and innovation.","fullyFundedDate":1757882588784,"projectUrl":"project/bringing-our-ideas-to-life-with-3d-print/9697766/","projectTitle":"Bringing Our Ideas to Life with 3D Printers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hansen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2456975_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1468022419692","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2456975"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_31901","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":785,"numTeachers":56,"percentFrplEligible":16,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":71,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":15,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"14.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":80.1,"schoolId":31901,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Canyon Springs STEM Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Canyon Springs STEM Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arizona/deer-valley-unified-school-district/canyon-springs-elementary-school/31901"}
