Students have been designing their own pieces and carefully placing each bit of glass to bring their ideas to life. One of my favorite moments was seeing a student who's usually pretty quiet get completely into it—taking their time picking colors and creating a design that really meant something to them. It's been awesome to watch their confidence grow as their projects come together.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the mosaic supplies, they were immediately excited. A lot of them had never worked with glass before, so they were really curious and eager to get started. They loved going through all the different colors and textures, and the room filled up quickly with ideas and creativity. Even students who don't always jump into projects right away were engaged and ready to try something new.\r\n\r\nRight now, students are finishing up their mosaics by adding grout and getting them ready to display. We're also talking a bit about the history of mosaics and how artists have used this style for years. Next, students will share their pieces and talk about what inspired their designs. Many were fascinated by the wax, dyes, and tools, especially since batik was a completely new process for them. They watched closely as the technique was explained and were excited by the idea of layering wax and color to create patterns. Seeing a wide variety of fabric scraps immediately sparked their creativity. They eagerly touched, sorted, and discussed the different textures, colors, and patterns, and many began imagining what they could turn the fabrics into right away. Over the past eight years I have watched my students have missing kitchen equipment that hinders them from completing the necessary projects in our class. My students are using these new resources when measuring cooking ingredients, to help keep time on food, and to keep or kitchen organized. When the students first saw these new items they were very excited. Many of these students I have had for 2 to 3 years. So seeing us get new materials makes them very happy.
