I wasn't able to use everything that was donated for the girls season(I received it 3 weeks before season was over), but as soon as the boys volleyball season starts in February we will be able to take advantage of all the materials. \r\n\r\nI used the colored cones to help the girls understand their base position on the court to their defensive positions, depending on the person who is spiking. In just the few days we were able to use the cones, their understanding was almost instantaneous. They've applied what we learned during our sectional game. Even though we didn't win, we got so much more closer in score than the previous years.\r\n\r\nI'm sure with the other materials that were donated we will be able to do more drills and gain more volleyball IQ at a rapid pace. We went from 1-18 record last year to 3-16 record this year. I'm hoping for even more successful seasons to come! The kids were so excited to get new rackets and grip tape. One full package of grip tape was used immediately to rewrap handles of rackets being used already. \r\nWe are in Boys season right now, and most of them have their own rackets, so the girls will be the ones that really get more use of those. But the grip tape was definitely needed right away. \r\n With a school and community that struggles like ours, we do not get enough parental support. There are so many different sports, clubs and groups doing fundraisers that it is hard to get participation for what the kids want and need. I will be working toward the purchase of the Algebra 2 curriculum and activities, as well as a grade-level subscription to IXL. We are making a real difference one student at a time.
