Everyone wanted to look at the new packs of bright chalk and oil pastels, touch the smooth surfaces of the geometric blocks, and try out the modeling clay. It was wonderful to see their genuine curiosity and eagerness to start using these materials for our daily activities.\r\n\r\nWe used the new supplies for a variety of end-of-year projects. The materials you provided were perfect for a mixed-media Earth Day project. Students applied watercolor with their new paintbrushes and drew ocean animals with the oil pastels. They were thrilled to see how the oil-resist technique made the colors of their creations really pop! The students also created \"chalkboard\" portfolios using the chalk pastels. Their designs were outstanding, and having new materials to explore made the project incredibly fun.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, we used the geometric blocks across our curriculum in both math and art. In art, the blocks allowed students to observe a physical model while practicing shading and adding volume to drawings. In math, they provided hands-on practice with three-dimensional shapes during our geometry unit. The blocks were just right for building structures out of different shapes and learning how to describe them using the correct terms.\r\n\r\nYour contribution made a noticeable difference in our daily classroom routine. These resources make tough concepts much easier and more fun for first graders to understand.
