Your donations have already made a meaningful difference for our students. Although the lunchroom may not be a traditional classroom, it is still an important learning environment where students practice responsibility, respect, safety, independence, and positive social skills every day.\r\n\r\nThe new cleaning supplies have allowed us to make cleanliness and responsibility a greater part of our daily lunchroom routine. With so many middle school students using the lunchroom throughout the day, spills, crumbs, wrappers, and other messes can happen very quickly. Having these supplies readily available allows me to address messes promptly while also encouraging students to take responsibility for the spaces they use. Instead of simply leaving a mess behind for someone else, students are learning that everyone has a role in maintaining a positive school environment.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments was seeing students' reactions when they realized that the new supplies were specifically purchased to improve their lunchroom. Students were curious and excited to see the new materials. It also gave me an opportunity to talk with them about why keeping our shared spaces clean is important. I explained that these resources were donated by people who wanted to support them and their school experience. Knowing that people outside of our school community cared enough to contribute helped make the materials feel even more special.\r\n\r\nThe supplies have also become an excellent way to reinforce our school's positive behavior expectations. During lunch, I encourage students to demonstrate respect, responsibility, and safety. Responsibility can be something as simple as throwing away trash, cleaning up a small spill, keeping food in the appropriate area, or making sure a table is ready for the next group of students. When I notice students taking initiative and helping maintain the lunchroom, I can recognize and praise those positive choices. These small moments provide opportunities to reinforce PBIS principles and show students that positive behavior does not go unnoticed.\r\n\r\nThe resources have also helped me create a more comfortable environment for students. Students spend a significant portion of their school day focused on academics and following a structured schedule. Lunch gives them an opportunity to eat, socialize, and recharge before returning to class. Providing them with a clean and organized environment helps make that time more enjoyable. When students enter a space that is cared for, I believe it also encourages them to take greater pride in that space.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, I plan to continue incorporating responsibility and positive behavior into our lunchroom routines. I want students to understand that maintaining our school community is a team effort. I will continue recognizing students who demonstrate leadership by cleaning their areas, helping appropriately when needed, following lunchroom expectations, and encouraging their peers to make responsible choices.\r\n\r\nI also hope to continue strengthening positive relationships with students during lunch. The lunchroom provides unique opportunities to interact with students outside of the traditional classroom setting. These conversations and daily interactions allow me to recognize positive behavior, provide encouragement, redirect students when necessary, and help them develop skills that extend beyond academics.\r\n\r\nYour contribution has provided much more than cleaning supplies. You have helped us create opportunities to teach responsibility, encourage positive behavior, promote school pride, and provide students with an environment where they can feel comfortable and supported. Every time we use these resources, they serve as a reminder that members of our community believe in our students and want them to succeed.\r\n\r\nThank you again for investing in our students and our school community. Your generosity has made a lasting impact on our lunchroom, and I am incredibly grateful that you chose to support this project. We look forward to continuing to use these resources throughout the school year as we work together to keep our lunchroom clean, safe, respectful, and welcoming for every student.","fullyFundedDate":1788052035041,"projectUrl":"project/enjoyable-snacks/10553185/","projectTitle":"Enjoyable Snacks","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Chris","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8092144_orig.png?crop=1024,1024,x0,y215&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1784543506625","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrchris-orange-lunchroom"},{"teacherId":8092144,"projectId":10491914,"letterContent":"This project has made a positive difference in our lunchroom by giving my students the resources they need to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. One of my favorite moments has been seeing students take more responsibility when they accidentally spill something or leave a mess behind. Instead of simply walking away, students are learning that they can take ownership by helping clean their area and encouraging their classmates to do the same.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building these habits into our daily lunchroom routine. I want students to understand that keeping our school clean is a shared responsibility. We will continue practicing proper hand sanitizing, cleaning up after ourselves, and showing respect for our school environment. It was hilarious and heartwarming to see how excited a group of kids could get over a cordless vacuum! They immediately volunteered for clean-up duties, eager to test it out on our classroom rug and shared spaces.\r\n\r\nHaving these supplies has made a noticeable difference during our daily activities, especially during group work and lab transitions. Recently, after a hands-on learning activity that left crumbs and paper scraps across our floor, a few students grabbed the vacuum and wipes to clean up our stations in under three minutes! Before, cleaning up took away precious instructional time, but now we can sanitize desks and vacuum floor mats effortlessly.\r\n\r\nOur next steps involve using these resources to maintain a clean and germ-free space as we dive into our upcoming collaborative group units. My students were thrilled to see bright, labeled bins and organized cart towers replacing our old, cluttered cardboard boxes. Their eyes lit up as we unpacked everything together, and several students immediately volunteered to help sort our goggles, lab safety gear, and measuring tools. Having a dedicated, clean home for every piece of science equipment instantly made our classroom feel like a professional laboratory, sparking a wave of pride and excitement across the entire room.\r\n\r\nWe put these resources to work immediately during a recent chemistry lab on chemical reactions. In the past, precious class time was wasted digging through scrambled drawers to find simple tools like graduated cylinders or safety pipettes. With our new organized setup, student lab leaders easily fetched their team's color-coded bin containing all necessary gear within seconds. During the lab, students stayed entirely focused on measuring liquids and observing color changes rather than searching for missing supplies. This smooth workflow kept our young scientists engaged, safe, and entirely immersed in hands-on discovery.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, this renewed organization sets us up for success as we dive into our upcoming unit on ecosystem dynamics. Students will be using our neatly stored soil-testing kits and magnifying lenses to analyze physical samples from around our school grounds. Because our materials are now easily accessible and simple to clean up, we can spend far more time running experiments and analyzing real-world data. This individual auditory focus allows them to absorb difficult scientific material much more deeply, turning abstract textbook lessons into immersive, multi-sensory experiences that make the core ideas truly stick.\r\n\r\nThe absolute favorite feature for the class is being able to pause, rewind, and re-listen to instructional audio while working through virtual experiments. In a standard classroom environment, instruction moves at one speed for everyone, but the new headphones give students total control over their own learning process. They get genuinely excited when they can zoom in on a tricky chemistry concept or replay a microscopic process until they hit that \"aha!\" moment, building their confidence in ways that static worksheets never could.\r\n\r\nThese headphones have been an exceptional game-changer for our English Language Learners and students with audio processing needs. One student in particular, who used to struggle to keep up during whole-class science lectures, now thrives using read-aloud software alongside visual diagrams. Having their own focused audio stream gives them the quiet space they need to translate terms and digest information without feeling rushed. Before receiving these materials, students did not always have many activities available to them after they finished eating. With extra unstructured time, students could become restless, move around the lunchroom, play fight, or get involved in disagreements with their peers. The board games, puzzles, word searches, and other activities funded through this project have helped me provide students with positive choices for how they spend their free time during lunch.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new materials, they were excited and immediately interested in seeing what games and activities were available. Many students wanted to play games with their friends, while others were interested in completing the quieter activities. It was wonderful to see students have different choices based on their interests and personalities. Some students enjoy being social and competitive with a group of friends, while others prefer sitting quietly and working independently. Having different resources available allows me to support both types of students.\r\n\r\nThe board games have been especially helpful for encouraging positive social interactions. Students are learning that playing a game is not only about winning. They have to take turns, follow the rules, communicate with one another, be patient, and demonstrate good sportsmanship. These are important skills that students can use throughout the school day and beyond the lunchroom. When disagreements happen during a game, it also creates an opportunity for students to practice solving smaller conflicts respectfully instead of immediately becoming frustrated with one another.\r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding things has been watching students gather around a game and become engaged with one another. Instead of focusing on something that may have frustrated them earlier in the school day, they can laugh, talk, play, and enjoy spending time with their classmates. Students who may not normally interact also have an opportunity to connect through a shared activity. These moments help turn lunchtime into more than just a period for eating. It can also become a time for building friendships, strengthening social skills, and creating a stronger sense of community.\r\n\r\nThe word searches, puzzles, and educational activities have also provided an important alternative. Not every student wants to participate in a group game during lunch. Some students prefer having a quieter activity that allows them to relax and recharge before returning to class. These resources give those students something meaningful to do while supporting skills such as vocabulary, concentration, problem-solving, and critical thinking.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, I plan to continue incorporating these resources into our lunchroom routines and encouraging students to take responsibility for the materials. Students will be expected to use the games appropriately, return all pieces when they are finished, clean up their area, and make sure the materials are ready for the next group of students. This will help teach responsibility and respect for shared resources.\r\n\r\nI also hope to continue building a lunchroom environment where positive behavior is recognized and encouraged. Students who demonstrate teamwork, responsibility, respectful communication, good sportsmanship, and appropriate behavior can serve as positive examples for their peers. Over time, I hope these activities will continue helping reduce boredom, unnecessary conflicts, and play fighting while increasing positive interactions between students.\r\n\r\nBecause of the generosity of my donors, my students now have resources that make their lunchtime experience more engaging and enjoyable. For students in a historically underfunded school community, having access to these materials means having opportunities that may not otherwise be available. Your support has helped us create a lunchroom where students can eat, socialize, learn, relax, and build stronger relationships with their peers.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in my students and helping me create a safer, more welcoming, and more positive lunchroom environment.
