Long Way Down has quickly become a favorite because many of my scholars see themselves, their emotions, and their real-life experiences reflected in the story. The novel has sparked powerful conversations about grief, choices, violence, family, and identity in ways that traditional texts sometimes cannot. The Great Gatsby has allowed scholars to explore symbolism, theme, and the idea of the American Dream while making meaningful connections between the novel and modern society. Holding Up the Universe has opened discussions surrounding self-worth, mental health, bullying, and empathy, helping scholars better understand both themselves and others.\r\nReading in my classroom is active, collaborative, and student-centered. Scholars annotate texts, participate in discussions, complete creative projects, and analyze how authors develop themes and characters. Many of my reluctant readers have become more willing to participate because these books feel relevant and engaging to them. One of the most rewarding moments has been watching scholars who normally avoid reading ask to continue Long Way Down beyond the assigned sections because they are genuinely invested in the story. These texts are helping build not only literacy skills, but also confidence, empathy, and a stronger classroom community.\r\nBecause of your generosity, my scholars now have access to books that make them feel seen, challenged, and inspired. Thank you for helping create a classroom where reading is meaningful and where scholars can connect deeply with literature and with one another.","fullyFundedDate":1767973900162,"projectUrl":"project/powerful-stories/9983248/","projectTitle":"Powerful Stories","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Brown","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10324267"},{"teacherId":4341076,"projectId":9456018,"letterContent":"Thanks to y'all donations, our students are very happy and engaged learning about coding and, programming also improving social emotional skills, critical thinking and solving problem. \r\n\r\nThat's how we can bring quality to our classrooms, I have never seen a group of high school students interacting, laughing and using the theory already learned to applied in a real context. \r\n\r\nAll my students were surprised and thankful when they found out that the new resources we got for our Computer Science class came from people that don't know them. Students are encouraged to read whenever they have free time, whether that's during independent work, after finishing assignments, or during designated reading blocks. This freedom has helped build positive reading habits and allows students to choose books that genuinely interest them, making reading something they look forward to rather than a task to complete.\r\n\r\nAll of my students have enjoyed exploring these new books, but they have been especially impactful for my students of color.
