Reading in this classroom is highly active and collaborative. Students annotate texts, track patterns in language and behavior, and participate in structured academic discussions that require them to support interpretations with textual evidence. Rather than passively reading, students are constantly asked to question author intent, analyze how language shapes perception of crime and justice, and connect themes across literature, law, and ethics. These skills directly reinforce analytical reading, argumentative writing, and disciplinary literacy aligned to upper-level ELA standards.\r\n\r\nThese new books have been especially impactful for students who are typically most engaged by real-world, case-based learning. Students who are interested in law enforcement, psychology, or criminal justice are finding deeper entry points into literature because the themes connect directly to the investigative work we do in class. At the same time, students who are less confident in traditional reading tasks are benefiting from the structured supports we use such as guided annotation, vocabulary decoding, and collaborative discussion, allowing them to access complex texts in meaningful ways. Across the board, students are demonstrating stronger engagement in academic conversations about morality, accountability, and justice, often bringing in thoughtful perspectives that extend beyond the text itself.","fullyFundedDate":1769037471562,"projectUrl":"project/from-text-to-truth-solving-crime-throug/9990463/","projectTitle":"From Text to Truth: Solving Crime Through Reading & Evidence","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Pagnotta","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1029997_orig.png?crop=278,278,x1,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1556118990308","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-pagnotta"},{"teacherId":1029997,"projectId":9689925,"letterContent":"We are so grateful for the texts that you supplied!
