The club is slowly growing, with more members joining and more students expressing interest in attending. It is great to have more machines, so that more of our students can work on their projects at the same time. Something our students have learned this semester is that sewing, whether it be creating an accessory or clothing, actually takes a lot of time! I will never forget the groaning coming from our kids when they think they are almost done, but we tell them that they have to do the next step – cutting, ironing, pinning, seam ripping, or using the machines.\r\n\r\nMy students are \"sew\" excited for our new materials. I kept this DonorsChoose project a secret from them and had them be the ones to open up the packages. One of my students said \"It is just like Christmas!\" On the day that we were opening the packages, myself and another teacher were celebrating some educational achievements – both finishing graduate programs. After sharing this with the group, another student said \"We are all graduating today!\" in reference to the generous donations we received. We celebrated with brand new materials and homemade baked goods, while students finished creating their tote bags.\r\n\r\nMy next step for my students is to incorporate sewing into the art curriculum. As we have finally moved into our brand new school, we now have the facilities to offer more art classes in different media. Particularly, in the upcoming school year, I will be teaching a 3D art class, where I hope to create excitement about sewing through teaching a hand-sewing project. This could help to recruit more students into the after-school sewing club, thus growing our club's membership and schoolwide support!","fullyFundedDate":1778284831232,"projectUrl":"project/sewing-for-sustainability-jumpstarting/10126314/","projectTitle":"Sewing for Sustainability: Jumpstarting our First After-School Club","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hueller","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9921220_orig.jpg?crop=1344,1344,x300,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1739289548634","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/hueller"},{"teacherId":10388873,"projectId":9967493,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my students in their confidence journey! Everyday, our students start class by journaling for 10 minutes with a question of the day. This is an important skill for them to practice in organizing their thoughts, expressing their feelings, and practicing their hand-writing skills. Students also help themselves to things they need, such as deodorant or toothbrushes. During seminar, I don't have a class, so students will stop by to freshen up or take an item without having to do it in front of other students. \r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials they were excited. They were a little apprehensive about having to journal, but now that it has become routine, they enjoy it. It is a nice time to reset during the day with quiet thoughts. Students were very excited about the hair products and stop in if they didn't have time in the morning to finish doing their hair. A few students took one of everything (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, mouthwash, hand sanitizer) and a few asked to take one for a sibling. Students are extremely grateful for the opportunity to practice effective hygiene. \r\n\r\nStudents are currently working on emergency response preparedness and media analysis of emergencies. At the end of the unit we will be making an electronic \"Emergency Preparedness Kit\". Some of the items that were donated through this project might even make it into the emergency kit.","fullyFundedDate":1766764528040,"projectUrl":"project/confidence-closet/9967493/","projectTitle":"Confidence Closet","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hernandez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10388873_orig.jpg?crop=634,634,x0,y2&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1766156933761","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10388873"},{"teacherId":9921220,"projectId":9960326,"letterContent":"My students and I are so excited about the new organizational materials and incentives that you helped fund. This has made distributing and collecting materials significantly more easy for both my students and myself. I am very grateful to have a brand new classroom in a brand new building, with a closet for the first time ever!\r\nMy students have been very thankful to have a more organized art room as well as excited for our incentives. My students have particularly enjoyed the stickers, which I have been using as a prize as well as recognition for fun life events such as their birthday, or a big win at a sports game. \r\nMy next step is to continue fostering a positive learning environment that both feels and is welcoming. I want my students to continue to feel safe and calm in my room, allowing them to reach their full artistic potential.","fullyFundedDate":1766683792557,"projectUrl":"project/from-chaos-to-calm-organizing-for-and-i/9960326/","projectTitle":"From Chaos to Calm: Organizing for and Incentivizing Bright Artists","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hueller","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9921220_orig.jpg?crop=1344,1344,x300,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1739289548634","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/hueller"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_43688","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":489,"numTeachers":49,"percentFrplEligible":75,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":25,"percentWhite":5,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":50,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":2,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"10.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":67.7,"schoolId":43688,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Bulkeley High School - Lower Campus on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Bulkeley High School - Lower Campus","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/connecticut/hartford-public-school-district/bulkeley-high-school-lower-campus/43688"}
