My young scholars learn best when they can play with hands-on materials. Sensory sand is kinetic and moves in unique ways. The children used the many different sand tools, construction vehicles and fossil kits to create construction sites.\r\nThe sand and tools are used in the tough tray. The tray has a cover to keep the sand fresh. The splat mat goes under the tray to keep the mess to a minimum.\r\nThe children created other scenarios in the sand. They made a farm, dinosaur jungle, and a zoo. The children were really excited to ride the pony ride-on toy that moves when they stand up in the stirrups and sit down on the saddle!\r\nThe children worked on eye-hand coordination when they played with the footballs, Koosh cornhole game, and reusable water balloons. The children loved drawing with the playground chalk and blowing bubbles too. The children were able to make connections between real zoo animals and the toys. They learned about the different types of animal body coverings. During literacy time, students now eagerly rotate through the reading corner, where they practice fluency and comprehension in a calm, inviting environment. The change has been incredible; students are more engaged in reading, more focused, and better able to manage their emotions throughout the day.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue nurturing students' love for reading and their ability to self-regulate independently. We're launching a \"Mindful Reading Moments\" activity that combines deep breathing techniques with brief reading reflections. We have been able to use our scarves and out CD player to dance creatively around out classroom.
