Your gift allowed us to bring in a dry erase easel, magnets, and magnetic pocket charts—all of which quickly became essential tools in supporting the language growth of our English as a New Language (ENL) students. These materials provided the visual supports and interactive opportunities our young learners needed to make meaningful connections with new vocabulary and academic content. Having a clear and engaging visual space gave students the confidence to participate in whole-group lessons, respond to prompts, and build their oral language skills in a supportive setting.\r\n\r\nWith the easel and magnetic materials, our students were able to actively engage in writing and teaching their peers. We used the easel every day to model sentence structures, display visuals, and sort vocabulary. Students practiced forming completed sentences, took turns writing responses, and even modeled reading for their peers. The visuals and hands-on format made it easier for emerging English speakers to take risks with language, learn from one another, and gain pride in their developing skills. Not to mention, it became a very important tool as students prepared for their language assessment at the end of the year. \r\n\r\nOne of our favorite projects was when students chose a favorite pet to write about. They planned their ideas using vocabulary charts, wrote descriptive sentences, and created their own flip books. The easel was a central hub for modeling writing strategies, sharing examples, and organizing ideas as a class. These tools truly helped turn our learning space into a more inclusive and language-rich environment. Thank you for being part of our students' growth—you've made a lasting difference.","fullyFundedDate":1734592500807,"projectUrl":"project/connecting-students-through-collaboratio/8884152/","projectTitle":"Connecting Students Through Collaboration","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Flynn","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9805823"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_23296","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":672,"numTeachers":52,"percentFrplEligible":67,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":19,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":65,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"1 - 2","studentTeacherRatio":"12.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":82.9,"schoolId":23296,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Brookside Primary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Brookside Primary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/ossining-union-free-school-district/brookside-primary-school/23296"}
