I now need to make sure that students only take one book at a time to make sure that everyone has a book to take home for independent reading.  \r\n\r\nStudents are also trying books they may not have picked up on their own when classmates talk about books they liked, which is inspiring lots of interesting conversations and questions.  I love how their interest in reading reading is also helping them speak more with their peers!!\r\n\r\nStudents have already started requesting more books and  I just started a new project to keep the fire burning! I want my students to find joy in reading and to know that with hard work they can do anything they want! I have noticed that students are able to focus better in class when I give them a healthy snack during independent reading time and simply when they need a boost. Now that I have books that the students requested they are reading up a storm. Most of my students have already read the entire series of One Piece and Blue Lock! Students are coming to my room before and after school to read and relax. \r\n\r\nStudents at my school must choose a fiction story and complete a semester long project on the book and now students are excited about the project. We meet two times each week during lunch. I have 15 students who come to each session and roughly 15 students who come once a week. We start with guided breathing and meditation to check in with our bodies and minds. I am teaching them different poses that we practice both days each week. We are slowly building on the poses and learning how to do different movements. Each student has a yoga block and a mat that they have at home so they can continue their practice. I send the students a list of what we learned each week so they can continue their practice. I have started having lunch with the same students every Friday to talk about mental health and nutrition.
