As a title 1 school and with various budget cuts that have lessened our schoolwide budget this year, it has been a challenge to purchase resources. The number of students registering for dance has increased which is bittersweet. As thrilled as I am that more students want to learn dance, it's difficult to provide them with a complete professional dance performance experience without costumes.\r\nMy dancers are currently studying Jazz dance with a focus on the genre of Majorette dance. They have learned about the history of Jazz dance and its spectrum of styles ranging from its African roots, to the Lindy Hop, to Musical Theater Jazz. They've learned a Majorette-inspired Jazz dance and are collaborating to choreograph a Majorette dance on their own. These dazzling costumes will be used for their Jazz dance performances during their dance concert. My dancers were excited for these awesome costumes and know they'll have the opportunity to shine on stage in the appropriate attire for a jazz dance performance!","fullyFundedDate":1764685443224,"projectUrl":"project/dazzling-dance-costumes/9842517/","projectTitle":"Dazzling Dance Costumes","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bryant","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9490668"},{"teacherId":9311825,"projectId":9869265,"letterContent":"A Warm Start on the Coldest Mornings\r\nThe day the boxes arrived was a total game-changer. With the recent stretch of negative temperatures and biting winds, my students have been arriving at school shivering and a bit drained by the commute. When I unpacked the hot chocolate k kups, with the cups, cup warmers, and little creamers, the excitement was instant. Their faces lit up not just because of the \"stuff,\" but because they realized our classroom was about to become a lot more like home. \r\nOn those specifically brutal mornings when the temperature drops below zero, the first thing we do is gather for hot chocolate. Seeing a student wrap their hands around a warm mug and take that first sip is incredible—you can actually see their shoulders drop and their focus return. It's more than a treat; it's a moment of comfort that makes them feel cared for before we even open a textbook.\r\nBeyond the morning warmth, we are using the hot chocolate to dive into our [recipe unit in our class. Because their basic need for comfort is being met first, they are much more ready to engage with the challenging material we are tackling in English Language Arts class.\r\nNow that we've established this supportive environment, our next step is to prepare for our formal presentations in class! When the boxes first arrived, the excitement in our room was contagious! Watching the students unbox the colorful sensory tools, soothing hygiene ingredients, and self-care materials was a highlight of our school year. Their faces lit up with immediate joy, and many were deeply moved knowing that generous supporters outside our school walls cared so much about their well-being and happiness.\r\n\r\nThese new resources have allowed us to take our club activities to the next level. Recently, our students gathered to design their own customized wellness jars and handcraft personal hygiene products. During one unforgettable afternoon, while measuring out ingredients and selecting relaxing scents, the atmosphere shifted into something truly special. As their hands were busy creating, students naturally began opening up to one another, sharing their daily stresses and discussing practical ways to protect their mental and physical health. The new tools provided a calm, grounding space that made honest conversations about self-worth, stress management, and emotional regulation feel safe and meaningful.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our students are taking what they have learned in club meetings and bringing it into their daily routines. Next, they will be designing personalized \"Self-Care Check-In\" tool kits to keep in their lockers and backpacks for quick moments of mindfulness during challenging school days. They are also planning a peer-led showcase to share simple stress-relief strategies with the rest of our school community. Your gift did so much more than provide materials it helped us build a supportive community where students learn to value themselves and each other every single day.
