I had a few students tell me earlier in the year that they really wanted me to get some manga books. I'd never had any manga in my classroom before, so I decided to try the Donors Choose community to see what would happen. It took a few months to get the project funded, but when the books did come in I couldn't keep my students off of them! I think I had five checked out to take home within the first day. \r\n\r\nIt's hard for me to convey how special moments like these are for me, as a reading teacher. In an increasingly digital age, it can be hard to get middle school students to engage with paper books. They are so used to consuming content online. But there is something magical about a kid quietly reading in the corner, completely engrossed in a book, forgetting about their phones and worries for a moment. Your generosity helped make that happen many times over the last few weeks in my classroom. I can't possibly say thank you enough, but I sure will try. Instead, they can focus on asking questions, exploring new ideas, and participating fully in class.\r\n\r\nFor many of my students, having reliable technology access at school is incredibly important. The boxes that our reams of copy paper are delivered in are the perfect size to house all of our beautiful new yarns, so that they stay organized and students can easily access them. We have crochet club twice a week, but students will often go to the yarn box independently throughout the school day to grab yarn for the projects they are working on. Students are extremely sweet, reminding me that they took a skein home so that they can \"hold themselves accountable\" for returning it.\r\n\r\nIt's amazing how many students check in with me during the day about crochet. First thing in the morning, I often have two boys crochet in the hallway next to me while I monitor the hallway. It seems like a calming way to start the day for two fidgety middle school boys. I have two students who arrive early and normally spend their morning working on their current projects. They've both been experimenting with making small bags and purses. One of my favorite things about this age group is how eager they are to make their own patterns, rather than follow preexisting ones. During homeroom time, I might lend a crochet hook to one student and celebrate the progress of another students' amigurimi jellyfish. It never gets old seeing students light up when they realize they are getting the hang of crochet.\r\n\r\nThe crochet hooks have also been a game changer for my students. I bought a bunch of cheap crochet hooks at the beginning of the school year and encouraged students to take them home so they could practice. As you can imagine, middle school students are not the best at remembering to bring materials to and from school, so we ran into an issue of not having any crochet hooks in the classroom during crochet club. Your donation ensures that we have a classroom set of crochet hooks that stay in the classroom so that students are always able to crochet something during club time.\r\n\r\nI can't thank you enough for your generous donation. Crochet club is a special part of the school day and one of the things I look forward to the most. It makes me so happy that I've had to add \"crochet\" to the list of things that students can do when they finish their school work. I am convinced that students are better off for being able to incorporate crochet into their day. These resources have already made a noticeable difference in our daily routine. When a student needs a snack or water, they simply let me know quietly and I provide it from my desk drawer so it doesn't distract others or interrupt the lesson. This simple system allows students to take care of their needs while keeping the class focused and engaged in learning.\r\n\r\nOne moment that really stood out happened during a recent lesson when students were working in groups to analyze an environmental science scenario. A few students came into class clearly tired and hungry, but after grabbing a snack, they quickly settled into their work. Instead of being distracted or asking to leave the room, they were able to participate fully in the discussion and share thoughtful ideas with their group. It was a small moment, but it showed how something as simple as a healthy snack can help students be ready to learn.\r\n\r\nWhen the snacks first arrived, the students were incredibly excited and grateful. Many of them immediately said things like, \"Thank you to the people who donated!\" and \"This will really help.\" They were genuinely touched that people they've never met care about their well-being and education. It was a powerful reminder to them that there are people out there supporting their success.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, these snacks will help support our learning during longer activities, labs, and collaborative projects in science class. My students will soon be working on investigations related to ecosystems and environmental systems, which require sustained focus and teamwork. Thanks to your support, they will have the energy they need to stay engaged, think critically, and do their best work.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping create a classroom where students feel supported, cared for, and ready to learn. Because of your generosity, our students now have access to a fun and engaging activity that encourages movement, teamwork, and confidence.\r\n\r\nWe have been using the disc golf equipment during lunch and outdoor enrichment time, and it has quickly become a favorite activity. Students are learning proper throwing techniques, keeping score, and working together to complete disc golf challenges. One memorable moment happened during our first week using the equipment. A student who is usually very quiet and hesitant during sports lined up for a throw, focused carefully, and landed the disc right into the basket. The entire group cheered, and that moment instantly boosted the student's confidence. It reminded all of us that success can look different for every student.\r\n\r\nWhen the equipment first arrived, the excitement was immediate. Students gathered around asking when they would get to try it and were amazed that we had real disc golf baskets and discs just like they see in parks and courses.
