The bandaids have come in handy more times than I can count for small cuts and scrapes, and students know they can come to our classroom for help when they need it.\r\n\r\nThe snacks, including the Goldfish crackers and fruit chews, have made an especially meaningful impact. Many middle school students struggle to focus when they are hungry, and having small snacks available has helped students stay engaged and ready to learn throughout the day. I think I had five checked out to take home within the first day. \r\n\r\nIt's hard for me to convey how special moments like these are for me, as a reading teacher. In an increasingly digital age, it can be hard to get middle school students to engage with paper books. They are so used to consuming content online. But there is something magical about a kid quietly reading in the corner, completely engrossed in a book, forgetting about their phones and worries for a moment.
