Instead of relying on pieced-together materials, I am now able to deliver consistent, intentional lessons that help students better understand their emotions, choices, and interactions with others. The books have made these lessons more relatable and concrete—students see themselves in the characters, which helps them make stronger connections and apply what they've learned in real-life situations. They have been so impactful in giving me tools to explicitly teach important life skills, especially to those who have disabilities such as Autism. \r\n\r\nFor example, \"My Mouth is a Volcano\" has been a powerful tool in helping students who struggle with interrupting/not knowing appropriate times to talk. After reading and discussing the story, students began to recognize that \"that feeling\" of needing to blurt something out is something they can manage. I've seen students pause, raise their hands, and even use our shared language from the book to remind themselves to wait their turn.\r\n\r\nSimilarly, \"The Great Compromise\" and some of the other books on how to disagree appropriately have helped students learn how to handle disagreements with peers. One student who often becomes frustrated during group work has been able to reference the story and suggest taking turns and finding a middle ground instead of shutting down or arguing. This is huge! \r\n\r\nThese moments show real growth and the ability to transfer skills from stories into everyday interactions. Many of my students thrive on repitition and familiarity, so these are stories that we can refer back to, and read over and over again. \r\n\r\nAs a result of your support, I've seen noticeable growth in my students' ability to regulate their behavior, communicate their needs, navigate challenging situations, and access critical academic content. They are more confident, more willing to participate, and increasingly able to reflect on their actions. These improvements don't just stay in the classroom—students are carrying these skills into other settings, including at home and with their peers, which creates a more positive and supportive environment overall. Your support has made it possible to provide tools that truly change how my students experience school and how they see themselves within it.","fullyFundedDate":1768435437440,"projectUrl":"project/social-skills-books/9809974/","projectTitle":"Social Skills Books","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Stephanie","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9785897"},{"teacherId":10039556,"projectId":9367337,"letterContent":"Thank you for supporting my classroom project!
