We have been able to work with different materials to help create a sensory experience that our students are able to work in, de-escalate and work some wiggles out of! The students can become very upset because they are unable to state what they are feeling, and having the opportunity to move, jump, wiggle and decompress has been a huge help with them! \r\n\r\nAllowing the kids to have these opportunities has not only helped with behavior but academics as well. All of my students were very excited to see the new materials and wanted to use them right away. They are making literacy skill learning more fun as well as improving the literacy skills of my students.\r\n\r\nThe students in my self-contained life skills class have been learning letters and letter sounds while playing with the cars with upper case and lowercase letters. They have also enjoyed looking at themselves in the mirror while saying various sounds in isolation as well as words with the sounds.\r\n\r\nI've been able to work on blending and reading CVC words with my students as well and having manipulatives, books and games to address CVC words has been very helpful. Several students have been working on saying vowels correctly in CVC words and the CVC books are perfect for addressing these goals.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for supporting the speech, language, and literacy skills of my students.","fullyFundedDate":1731078349614,"projectUrl":"project/phonemic-awarenesses-skills/8842565/","projectTitle":"Phonemic Awarenesses Skills","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Obie","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9734230"},{"teacherId":8697531,"projectId":8786727,"letterContent":"In our classroom, we've been incorporating the new blend and digraph kits in our small group reading centers and word mapping boards into our daily phonics lessons to support the development of fluency, decoding and encoding skills. \r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, they were excited and curious. The hands-on nature of the kits and the interactive word-mapping boards grabbed their attention. They were eager to explore the materials and quickly became engaged in the activities. They also love that the word mapping boards have handwriting lines and they are able to practice letter formation. They now want to try cursive!\r\n\r\nAs for the next steps, we will continue to build on the skills we've been practicing. Students will work on more complex word patterns, such as consonant blends (2 and 3 letters) and digraphs, using the word mapping boards to visualize these patterns. The goal is for students to integrate these skills into their independent reading and writing, ultimately increasing their fluency and confidence as readers and writers.","fullyFundedDate":1726526543880,"projectUrl":"project/becoming-fluent-readers-using-a-multisen/8786727/","projectTitle":"Becoming Fluent Readers Using a Multisensory Approach","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Welch","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8697531"},{"teacherId":9749906,"projectId":8785780,"letterContent":"I want to take a moment to personally thank you for your generous book donation to our school library. Your thoughtful contribution has had a positive impact on students.\r\n\r\nSince receiving your donation, the books have been available for teachers and students to explore topics they might not have otherwise encountered. I've seen firsthand the excitement and enthusiasm these new books have brought to the students. For many, this donation has been a gateway to a whole new world of learning and exploration, from adventure to biographies to personal development. Whether it was a reluctant reader finding a book that sparked their interest or a student discovering a new passion for a subject, your donation has made a tangible difference.\r\n\r\nYour gift has also inspired a greater sense of pride in the students. They feel more invested in their education knowing that there are people like you who believe in their potential and are willing to support their learning journey. It's a powerful reminder of the importance of community and the impact that generosity can have on shaping young minds.\r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you for your donation. Your support not only enriches the students' academic experiences, but also fosters a love of reading that will benefit them throughout their lives.\r\n\r\nThank you for your kindness and for making a meaningful difference.","fullyFundedDate":1726449798195,"projectUrl":"project/resources-for-the-biggest-classroom-in-t/8785780/","projectTitle":"Resources for the Biggest Classroom in the School!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Swanson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9749906"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_78782","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":301,"numTeachers":25,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":63,"percentIndigenous":11,"percentLatinx":14,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":76.9,"schoolId":78782,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Broadwater Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Broadwater Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/montana/billings-school-district-2/broadwater-elementary-school/78782"}
