It's a true joy to add these books to the collection and have them at the ready to use with students.\r\n\r\nThe books pair with lessons from the GamePlan curricular materials, and through these stories, students work on many musical concepts. They learn about crescendo and decrescendo with Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day. I have quite a few younger students who mainly speak Spanish and we will use Los Pollitos to count in both English and Spanish. Grandfather Twilight will serve the older students as they read a beautiful story and learn a melodic accompaniment with new rhythms. Tito Puente: Mambo King will give kids a peek into the life of famous Latin percussionist, Tito Puente. Swimmy and Elmer will teach kids that it's okay to be different!\r\n\r\nIn my classroom, we read together in a big group. We do one story a lesson (song tales like the Fox Went Out on a Chilly Night or Old Joe Clark) with the younger students. Older students still read the story together in a big group, then we work with instruments to help illustrate the story with sound effects and new musical themes.","fullyFundedDate":1727967446403,"projectUrl":"project/creating-a-creative-environment-combini/8837935/","projectTitle":"Creating a Creative Environment: Combining Music with Children's Literature","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Skogley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1399200_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1475600234750","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jennifer-skogley"},{"teacherId":5912079,"projectId":8767038,"letterContent":"As you can see from the photos, students reach for these books. One student proudly exclaimed, \"I can read this all by myself!\" These milestones are a testament to the difference you have made.\r\n\r\nReading can often feel like an insurmountable challenge for students with learning difficulties. The decodable books you provided are carefully crafted to support phonics development, decoding skills, and word recognition.
