As middle school counselors, we often see students arrive distracted by unmet basic needs that can make it difficult to focus on learning. The self-care items, including hairbrushes, hair gel, hair ties, bobby pins, hygiene products, and leggings, have allowed us to quickly support students who need them during the school day. One memorable moment was seeing a student's confidence visibly change after being able to freshen up and address a concern that was causing embarrassment and distraction. Being able to meet those needs helped the student return to class feeling confident, comfortable, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nStudents were incredibly excited and grateful when they saw the materials. Many expressed appreciation for knowing there was a safe place they could come for support without judgment. The snacks have also been a valuable resource, helping students who may be hungry between meals stay focused and engaged throughout the day. Something as simple as a snack or a hair tie can make a significant difference in a student's ability to concentrate and participate in class.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, these resources will continue to support our ongoing work of removing barriers to learning and promoting student well-being. We will use them to respond to students' immediate needs while also teaching self-advocacy, self-care, and healthy coping skills through counseling lessons and individual support. Thanks to our donors, we are better equipped to help students feel cared for, confident, and ready to succeed both academically and personally.","fullyFundedDate":1775770215041,"projectUrl":"project/helping-students-focus-and-feel-confiden/10164771/","projectTitle":"Helping Students Focus and Feel Confident With Snacks & Self-Care","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hewlett","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10468135"},{"teacherId":10412655,"projectId":10041691,"letterContent":"I hope this message finds you well.
