We are still working on coming up with a name and have a few finishing touches for it, but the students LOVE it! \r\nThis is the second phase of a 2 part project funded by Donors Choose. Phase 1 helped us with setting the tone of the room along with a few items that created a comfy and calming space.\r\nThis phase gave us additional items students requested. One of the biggest hits was the weighted lap pads. We had enough to supply the space adequately as well as share some with a couple of classrooms. The students are amazed at how these help them to calm down when feeling anxiety or stress. \r\nOther popular items are the diamond art kits and the coloring books. Students enjoy coming with a friend to just sit and unwind while coloring or being creative with the playdoh.\r\nI am sure we will continue to grow this area with new additions that students suggest. With the help of our donors, we were able to get it off the ground and make it functional. Having a space for students to go to when they are feeling stressed or anxious became a priority for me. I saw the need, had the space and wanted to make it inviting. I wanted to have items that would create a relaxing atmosphere, feel safe and a place where students could also meet together. \r\nThe first items we received were helpful in giving students the feel of a relaxing space. Comfy chairs to sit in were a real hit! I had students give input on what they would like to see in this space as well. One of my students who visits the space on a weekly basis goes right to the sound maching and turns on thunderstorm! She enjoys that sound and finds it calming. Other students find the water fountain to be calming just to watch. \r\nI would say the number one item students enjoy are the sand trays. These give them something to focus on when they are sharing what they are struggling with. \r\nThere were more items we decided we needed after this project was funded so we created a second phase.
