We've integrated the two floor lamps, LED lamp and the table lamp creating a soft learning space throughout the classroom, shifting away from the harsh, overhead fluorescent lights that often cause sensory fatigue. A standout moment occurred during our small group center time. Students use the lighting to read books to themselves in the library, use the LED lamp to work on word work near our windows, and use the table lamp to focus on small group instruction with me.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials being unboxed, the reaction was pure electricity. There were audible gasps and a few \"woahs\" as they realized they could control the ambiance of their own learning space. They were especially captivated by the color-changing LED lamp, debating which colors best matched the \"vibe\" of our different subjects—blue for math time and green for science projects. Looking ahead, students are using observations of the sun, moon, and stars to describe patterns that can be predicted.
