A big part of my job as a fifth-grade reading teacher is helping my students develop a love for reading, and this project has truly made a difference. From the moment the books arrived, students were eager to explore the new titles and find their \"just right\" books.\r\n\r\nReading is a big part of our daily routine. The first five minutes of every class are dedicated to independent reading, and students also complete weekly reading logs. Having a book that truly hooks them is key, which has made having a variety of options so important. The new picture books have been especially helpful as break reads: short, engaging stories students can enjoy when they need a quick reset before diving back into their chapter books.\r\n\r\nThe graphic novels have been a big hit, especially the Dog Man and Click series. That section of our classroom library is always empty because someone is always reading them! It's been wonderful to see students take more ownership of their reading choices. They've started recommending books to each other and even asking for extra time in class to keep reading.\r\n\r\nI know these books will continue to be loved and enjoyed by my students now and by many future fifth graders for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1756560138806,"projectUrl":"project/a-library-that-sparks-a-love-for-reading/9430956/","projectTitle":"A Library That Sparks a Love For Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Stapleton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10033832_orig.jpg?crop=1158,1158,x0,y231&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1750793819990","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10033832"},{"teacherId":2321428,"projectId":9168785,"letterContent":"These books have been a wonderful gift to our classroom library. Many former students have popped in simply to say hello, yet somehow turned it into a book browsing opportunity to check out the new books. Former students have borrowed some of these books to use for their first book response of the new year. One student saw the multiple copies of the book, The Thing About Jellyfish by Ali Benjamin, and asked how soon our next book club will start. \r\n\r\nOne of the greatest gifts of teaching readers is seeing how their life with books grows and changes. A reluctant reader is suddenly drawn to a title after being influenced in a round of book clubs, now they're actively seeking more books to read. It's magical!\r\n\r\nThank you for helping to expand our classroom library. You're helping hook students into reading one book at a time. Students were engaged in the story, and were able to relate the story to the math concept they were learning. When students were struggling to understand, I would be able to say to them, \"remember what happened in the story?\" , or \"How did this character solve the problem?\", and it would help them remember the steps or problem solve in a way they haven't done before.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, many of the books chosen were about different cultures. It is great to have different cultures represented in books when teaching in a school with a diverse cultural background. many of my students connected with the characters in the book and it helped build a stronger classroom community.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generous donations and helping me bring a sense of belonging into my classroom, as well as further their learning by including literacy in my math class.","fullyFundedDate":1747174695726,"projectUrl":"project/building-math-literacy-and-love-throug/9158239/","projectTitle":"Building Math Literacy (And Love) Through Engaging Stories","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Valentino","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8528455"},{"teacherId":4771834,"projectId":7061739,"letterContent":"When our new rug arrived, my middle schoolers' faces lit up instantly—they couldn't believe this cozy, colorful space was really for them! We rolled it out in our library area, and within minutes students were gathering on it with books in hand, asking if they could sit together to read. Now, the rug has become the heart of our classroom community. Whether they are diving into novels, working in small groups, or just enjoying a calm moment between activities, the rug gives them a welcoming spot that feels special and their own. This simple addition has transformed the library corner into a place where students want to be, and it's already encouraging more reading, collaboration, and joy in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1677006027891,"projectUrl":"project/with-one-rug-we-can-read-relax-and-s/7061739/","projectTitle":"With One Rug We Can... The project was fully funded in the winter months, which brought a ton of excitement for students. Winter in Maine does not stop students from playing recreational sports such as football and soccer. \r\n\r\nStudents have been using the colored cones to help dedicate specific soccer goals. This has been beneficial on days when it is too muddy to access our recess field. The visuals help make clear boundaries which is a big win when figuring out if a player did in fact score. \r\n\r\nWe are looking forward to the warmer weather.
