I was so excited and a bit apprehensive to try this room transformation, and I am so glad that I did! \r\n\r\nI told my students to wear bright colors and they were so surprised to walk into the black-lit room. We worked all day with highlighters reviewing math concepts like multi-digit multiplication and division and fractions. We also had some STEM stations which included, cup stacking, drawing, plus plus blocks, and making paper airplanes. We ended the day playing bingo.\r\n\r\nIt was so much fun and my students worked so hard. It was so helpful to have enough books for my students to borrow and prepare for the Book Blitz Jr. reading competition. \r\n\r\nI created a system so students could check out my books in addition to the books from the school library. In the competition the students competed in groups of 4 or 5. Between each of them, they had to read all 12 books. Then, during the competition they were tasked with answering questions about the books. \r\n\r\nI have watched so many students read and enjoy books through this program, who ohterwise wouldn't have. Parents love seeing their children reading. This way, other students with behavior struggles can use the items. Students with behavior struggles need reinforcement. Oftentimes, people assume that a student in an SPED classroom with Behavior Struggles is academically low and need specially designed instruction. However, most of these students are very bright and need their minds stimulated.
