This hands on approach has helped develop the students critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity, essential skills for future careers in biomedical fields.\r\nThe students have been thrilled to work with such high cutting-edge technology that lets them bring their ideas to life. They have been most excited about learning to design and print custom models, prototypes, and tools that can help them visualize and solve real world biomedical challenges. The ability to create and refine their designs quickly is a game changer, teaching them the value of experimentation and innovation.\r\nAll the students instantly took an interest in the 3D printer and began their first project working together to design a mini boat. This collaborative approach helped foster essential skills like teamwork and communication. Some students have been especially drawn to the design aspect, using the software to bring their ideas to life. With the materials that you have provided, we are showcasing all the reading that students are doing - and it is contagious! More and more teachers are also interested in showcasing their own reading by creating a \"Current/Recommended Reads\" poster for their door. \r\nWe have bulletin boards dedicated to reading. After students are done reading, they write a review and it is posted on the board. It is making students and teachers alike excited about reading (and we get a little writing in there too with the review)! I have also created a book reflection handout to help monitor that students are in fact reading; students keep a journal and after each independent reading period, they choose a prompt to reflect on what they read about. The selection of prompts allows the to choose something that fits both the book they are reading and how they are interacting with the text that day. \r\nThe line readers have made such a difference for some students. At first, I wasn't sure how many students would agree to use the line reader. The art supplies you've helped provide have unlocked a world of creativity and self-expression for each of them.\r\n We're using the new resources in countless ways, and it's been amazing to see students tap into their individuality and cultural heritage through their art. One standout moment was when they created vibrant pieces celebrating their roots for Hispanic Heritage Month. Each student crafted a colorful representation of their family's origins, traditions, and stories. We proudly showcased their work at our 8th annual Hispanic Heritage Month event, where it stole the show! Seeing their art admired by families, community members, and peers was a powerful experience, filling them with pride and confidence.\r\n When they first saw the materials, the students' reactions were priceless. There were squeals of delight, wide eyes, and eager hands reaching for paints, markers, and collage elements. It was clear they felt empowered to bring their ideas to life in new and exciting ways. One student beamed with joy as she mixed colors to match textile patterns from Mexico. Another student, in particular, poured her heart into creating a piece celebrating her Puerto Rican heritage. She crafted a stunning collage of drawings to depict the symbols of her family's traditions.\r\n As for what's next, students are diving into exploring personal symbols and narratives through mixed media art. They're asking profound questions like \"What colors represent my story?\" and \"How can I blend materials to show my passions?\", its incredible to see them drive their own creative journeys with such curiosity and ownership. Whether they're crafting abstract pieces reflecting their dreams or detailed collages of family traditions, your contribution has given them the freedom to express themselves in remarkable ways. Most of us are used to reading for information, having to answer questions while we read or write an essay after we read a book that we didn't even choose, but this year I wanted to include time to allow my students to also read for joy. During independent reading time, the only rules are that they are quiet and read for around 20-25 minutes. They are still responsible for reflecting on what they've read, but the main goal is just to read!\r\n\r\nI want my students to develop a love for reading, or even just not hate it as much as they are used to. Having so many different book choices allows them to choose something interesting to them which means they have no reason not to read it! My students look forward to independent reading time on Fridays because they're quiet and I have even enjoyed being able to read (or catch up on grading) while they read. Students have brought blankets and I've provided some flexible seating so they lay or lounge while they read, which makes Fridays fly by in my classroom.\r\n\r\nI really look forward to reading some of these books because they've been so popular amongst my students, specifically Never Fall Down--all 5 copies were signed out the first day, same with 83 days in Mariupol. I'm excited to continue offering these texts throughout the year alongside my history units. Many of my students have already asked about some of the books on the shelves that going to align with later units They're interested in Bomb and Fashionopolis, and my Spanish speakers are excited to either practice the language or to comfortably read in their own language while trying to learn English all day. Overall, being able to offer choice and independent reading has greatly impacted my classroom and will hopefully inspire students to develop a love (or like, for now) for reading.","fullyFundedDate":1755735912467,"projectUrl":"project/reading-inclusive-histories-in-humanitie/9618692/","projectTitle":"Reading Inclusive Histories in Humanities","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Brand","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8582704_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1659992294332","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8582704"},{"teacherId":9819229,"projectId":9049558,"letterContent":"Thank you for your continued support in providing engaging and collaborative learning opportunities for our students. Using the research of Building Thinking Classrooms by Peter Liljedahl we are transforming math classrooms from a space where students follow series of steps and procedures to spaces where critical thinking, communication, and collaboration abound. \r\nWe now have vertical white boards, because of your donations, in every math classroom in our school. Students love the opportunity to use the white board to show their thinking, and with the help of the research of Building Thinking Classrooms we are asking them to think deeper and explore connections between concepts. \r\nIn my 7th grade classroom students are building their numerical fluency by going back to what they know about basic multiplication and then pulling the connection into fractions and beyond. This has allowed them to better understand the underlying mathematics of scale drawing and modeling. \r\nIn addition to building greater mathematical understanding, students are also learning to communicate and collaborate with one another. Despite our reliance on technology, students go onto work in fields that will require these skills to be successful. When that time comes, our students will be well versed in handling challenging topics while working with individuals who have a variety of perspectives. \r\n\r\nWe hope to continue to spread the basic principals of Building Thinking Classrooms to all of our classrooms in the school so that students are thinking deeper together throughout their school day.","fullyFundedDate":1740705010445,"projectUrl":"project/building-more-thinking-in-classrooms/9049558/","projectTitle":"Building More Thinking in Classrooms","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Booth","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9819229_orig.jpg?crop=575,575,x0,y17&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1732567446778","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9819229"},{"teacherId":9935566,"projectId":9142537,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your donations to my cozy classroom project! My students have been putting the new wobble chairs to great use, and the difference they have made is already clear. For students who struggle to sit still in traditional seats, especially during a 60-minute class period, the wobble chairs provide an outlet for movement while helping them stay engaged and focused. Along with the bean bag chairs—which quickly became a favorite for independent learning and quiet work—these flexible seating options have transformed our classroom into a space that feels welcoming, comfortable, and student-centered.\r\n\r\nThe reaction on my students' faces was priceless when they first saw the new seating. They were eager to try out the bean bags and wobble chairs, and those who often feel restless finally had a way to participate in class without feeling singled out. Several students have told me they feel more comfortable in their learning environment now, which has boosted their confidence and willingness to stay focused on their work.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, I plan to continue expanding flexible seating so more students can benefit from both movement and comfort during the day. During our \"D.E.A.R.\" (Drop Everything And Read) time, students already get to choose their own spot for independent reading, and the new seating has made that time even more enjoyable and productive. By giving them choice, students take more ownership of their learning and find what works best for them.\r\n\r\nThe addition of these chairs has already made a noticeable impact on focus, creativity, and the overall atmosphere of our classroom.
