Students worked together in small groups, proudly cheering each other on as they matched pieces and completed their puzzles. These activities strengthened not only their academic skills, but also their cooperation and confidence.\r\n\r\nThe headphones made an immediate difference during testing and independent learning. Many of my kindergarteners become easily distracted, and having their own pair allowed them to focus, listen to instructions clearly, and complete tasks with a new sense of independence. This one item alone transformed the learning environment during assessment windows.\r\n\r\nThe art supplies, color paper, drawing pads, laminating sheets, and dry-erase markers are now part of our daily routine. We use them for morning work, literacy centers, and creative projects. By previewing and reinforcing key terms, such as \"drought,\" \"dust storm,\" and \"farmer\". Students developed the academic language needed to understand and discuss \"Out of the Dust\". The combination of simplified text, visuals, and guided discussion gave multilingual learners multiple ways to connect meaning to words. This approach also allowed teachers to highlight sensory and descriptive language, showing how authors use imagery to bring scenes to life. As students encountered similar language in \"Out of the Dust\", they were more prepared to interpret and explain it.\r\n Working in small groups to identify settings, characters, and key details gave multilingual learners the chance to apply new skills, vocabulary and comprehension strategies collaboratively.
