The snacks and fidgets drew smiles and comments about how nice it felt to have \"new things just for us,\" and the energy in the room shifted from the usual after-lunch quiet to eager anticipation.We have already put the resources to work in our small-group Science of Reading sessions. The alphabet game has become a favorite way to practice letter-sound correspondence and blending during our foundational skills rotations; students take turns drawing cards and building words together, which has made the practice feel more like play than drill. The dry erase markers pair perfectly with this—students write the words they build, erase quickly, and try again without the frustration of paper waste. One student who has been working hard on short-vowel sounds used the game to match three correct sounds in a row, then proudly wrote the word on the board and asked if we could keep the markers out every day. The fidgets have helped a few students stay settled during independent reading practice, and the snacks have given a quiet boost of energy and a sense of care during longer intervention blocks.Our next steps include folding these materials into our current blending and segmenting unit. Students will use the alphabet game in small-group partner challenges to build and read multisyllabic words, then transfer those words onto the whiteboards with the new markers for collaborative sentence writing. We will also set up a simple \"focus station\" with the fidgets for students who need extra sensory support while they practice decoding.
