My current ESL students could not wait to get their hands on books that bridged their home language to the language they are learning to use to communicate in a new country. Some of my ESL students who have been in the country for years, and have learned English already, were also ecstatic to see their home language and characters that look like them in books that are now permanently part of our classroom library. Not surprisingly, my students who are native to America were thrilled to be able to sit with ESL classmates and share a book that both of them could read and it opened up communication and memories between all of my students. Your donation has brought so much joy and learning to all of the students in my classroom. I truly appreciate your support and generosity to help students from all backgrounds continue their education in an inclusive and diverse classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1735415094004,"projectUrl":"project/bridging-language-barriers-with-bilingua/8964517/","projectTitle":"Bridging Language Barriers With Bilingual Books","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Brodt","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2296281_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1714225654435","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrsbrodt"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_58186","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":586,"numTeachers":32,"percentFrplEligible":47,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":19,"percentWhite":54,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":12,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"18.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":74.0,"schoolId":58186,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Bates Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Bates Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/kentucky/jefferson-county-public-schools/bates-elementary-school/58186"}
