Giving students the choice of how and where to sit allows them to find a position that helps them focus during independent work and small group instruction. The flexible options also allow for gentle movement without distracting others, which is sooo important for a bunch of kiddos that naturally have a lot of energy. The flexible seating allows students to build independence by choosing their workspace and take ownership of their learning how to make responsible choices. \r\n\r\nTeaching first graders means fostering a love for school from day one, and your contribution has helped make our classroom a cozy, welcoming space where they love to learn. Because the texts are thoughtfully designed to support early literacy skills, students were able to apply their phonics knowledge in a meaningful way. After reading, I was able to guide them through deeper, more complex comprehension questions, helping them strengthen their understanding of the text and think critically about what they read.
