Before this donation, students were confined to hard, uncomfortable desks for every activity, whether they were annotating a novel, drafting an essay, or collaborating on a group project. Now, students can choose a cozy corner of the room, settle into a bean bag chair, and use their lap desk as a sturdy, portable workspace. This small shift has made a noticeable difference in how engaged and comfortable my students feel during class.\r\n\r\nReading is at the heart of what we do in English I and II, and these new additions have helped create an environment where students genuinely want to read. Instead of dreading independent reading time, students now look forward to grabbing a bean bag chair and diving into their novels or short stories. The lap desks give them a stable surface to take notes, highlight key passages, or jot down questions without needing to be at a traditional desk. For many of my students, this flexibility has made reading feel less like a chore and more like something they can enjoy on their own terms.\r\n\r\nBeyond reading, my students use these resources for a variety of projects throughout the semester, from collaborative discussions to independent research and writing assignments. The lap desks are especially useful when students are working in small groups scattered around the room, giving each student a personal workspace no matter where they're seated. This donation has helped foster a classroom culture that values comfort, choice, and student ownership over their learning. I am incredibly grateful to have donors who understand that a more inviting classroom environment can lead to more motivated and engaged learners, and I know these bean bag chairs and lap desks will benefit my students for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1778017790447,"projectUrl":"project/elevate-english/10238118/","projectTitle":"Elevate English","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Hart","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10488109"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_2921","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":116,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":74,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":59,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":29,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":4,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":51.5,"schoolId":2921,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Henderson County Career Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Henderson County Career Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/henderson-county-public-schools/balfour-education-ctr/2921"}
