Many of them struggle with managing big emotions such as frustration, anxiety, and stress, so having hands-on tools made the lesson both engaging and meaningful. When students were introduced to the coping board project inspired by B is for Breathing, they were eager to explore the different coping strategies and choose ones that felt personal to them.\r\n\r\nDuring the lesson, students read and discussed coping strategies for each letter of the alphabet. They then used the Scrabble-style letter tiles to spell out the coping skills they wanted to include on their own personal coping boards. It was powerful to see students thoughtfully selecting strategies like \"breathe,\" \"listen to music,\" \"take a break,\" and \"ask for help.\" One student shared that they planned to keep their coping board in their room so they could remember what to do when they feel overwhelmed. Another student proudly explained how deep breathing helps them calm down before reacting when they feel angry.\r\n\r\nThe hands-on nature of this project allowed students to reflect on their emotions while also creating something meaningful they could use in their daily lives. Students loved decorating their boards with stickers and designs, making each one unique and personal.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, students will continue practicing these coping strategies during our SEL group lessons. We will refer back to their coping boards when discussing real-life situations and problem-solving healthy ways to respond to difficult emotions. Our goal is for students to build confidence in managing their feelings and to develop lifelong tools that support their emotional well-being both at school and at home.\r\n\r\nYour support helped turn an important life skill into a memorable and empowering learning experience for our students. Thank you for helping our classroom grow not only academically, but emotionally as well.","fullyFundedDate":1770694500836,"projectUrl":"project/build-your-calm-personalized-coping-boa/9970582/","projectTitle":"Build Your Calm: Personalized Coping Boards","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Possehl","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10390823_orig.jpg?crop=1841,1841,x1088,y604&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1766447677360","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10390823"},{"teacherId":10390823,"projectId":9970547,"letterContent":"Our students were incredibly excited when they saw the new materials for our social-emotional learning group. Many of them struggle with managing big emotions, so having hands-on tools made the lesson meaningful and engaging. When we introduced the Calm Down Jar activity, students quickly connected the swirling glitter to how their thoughts and feelings can feel when they are upset or overwhelmed.\r\n\r\nDuring our lesson, students created their own Calm Down Jars by choosing glitter colors to represent positive emotions like happiness, bravery, kindness, and strength. This gave them a chance to reflect on their feelings in a safe and creative way. One powerful moment came when a student shared that watching the glitter settle reminded them that their anger can \"settle down too if I breathe and wait.\" It was a meaningful realization that helped the group understand that emotions are temporary and can calm with the right strategies.\r\n\r\nStudents now use their Calm Down Jars as a visual self-regulation tool during moments when they feel frustrated, anxious, or overwhelmed. They shake the jar, practice slow breathing, and watch the glitter settle while focusing on calming their bodies and minds.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will continue helping students build a toolbox of coping skills through lessons on positive self-talk, emotional awareness, and problem-solving. Thanks to your generosity, our students now have a meaningful, hands-on way to practice calming their minds and building emotional resilience. Thank you guys so much again for making this project possible. It was a great group full of connection and fun while learning another coping strategy they can use each day!","fullyFundedDate":1771363812755,"projectUrl":"project/my-calm-down-jar-a-tool-for-focus-and-s/9970547/","projectTitle":"My Calm Down Jar: A Tool for Focus and Self-Regulation","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Possehl","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10390823_orig.jpg?crop=1841,1841,x1088,y604&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1766447677360","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10390823"},{"teacherId":10351942,"projectId":9898454,"letterContent":"The impact of your donation has been a tremendous one. The High School and Transition students have been able to gain independence, needed life skills and extended pre - job skills. I, as their Teacher, have also been impacted by the gracious support that you have given us. \r\nI have a classroom of 10 students and 2 assistants as well as some private RBTs (Registered Behavior Technicians) who serve individual students. The students vary in age between 15 and 19 as well as varying in grades between 9th and 12th. This is the first year of our school and I have goals and lessons for my students to assist them in their gaining of independent life skills which are skills that allow the students to be as independent as possible in their adult lives. These skills run the gamut from cleaning skills for a home or job to office skills including typing as well as retail clothing skills that also work for the home and even cooking. \r\nBecause of your gracious giving, my students have been able to cook weekly. We have waffle Wednesdays. Thanks to your giving, the students are able to come to the table 4 at a time and make their own batch of waffle mix and then take that mix to the area where the waffle makers are. Some use the ladles provided by your support to ladle the mix into the waffle makers and then close up the waffle makers and make the waffles. Every student and adult in the classroom enjoys them as well as other adults in the school. My students will continue learning and expanding their skills thanks to your gracious giving and support!","fullyFundedDate":1763494147653,"projectUrl":"project/learning-through-cooking-fun/9898454/","projectTitle":"Learning through Cooking Fun","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Julie","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10351942"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_134546","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":null,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":26,"percentWhite":39,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":21,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":false,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Weighted Average","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":52.9,"schoolId":134546,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Autism Collier Charter School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Autism Collier Charter School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/florida-department-of-education/autism-collier-charter-school/134546"}
