One of the first questions I get from students when we start out the new year is \"when do we get to play instruments?\" Having instruments in a music room is so central and key to allowing students to fully experience what its like to make music. \r\n\r\nThese new resources you have provided have been used in collaboration with a book that I found years ago titled \"Awesome Books With Musical Hooks\" by Katie Grace Miller. In this book it gives instructions on how to use existing children's books and accompany their stories with percussion instruments played by the children. With the included pictures you will see, one of the books \"A Frog in the Bog\" was used to explore dynamics in music. Students were to play the triangle, egg shakers, wood blocks and lollipop drums to represent each of the insects or animals in the book. The triangles (ticks) represent the softer sounds in music, while the lollipop drums (Slugs) represent the louder sounds in music. The students were always engaged and had so much fun being a part of the story. \r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the lollipop drums they were thrilled and couldn't believe they were going to be able to play a drum that looked like a lollipop. We have also given all of the guiro's (Fish scrapers) a name, and the old ones that are still in the classroom are Grandma and Grandpa Fish. Our next step is to continue venturing into the next children's book to see how else we can use the new instruments.\r\nThank you once more for being so generous and allowing us teachers to have the resources we need to make children's educational experiences so much more fulfilling.","fullyFundedDate":1763472528612,"projectUrl":"project/percussion-percussion-hit-shake-and-a/9621653/","projectTitle":"Percussion, Percussion!
