I was so excited to see the boxes in the office. Unpacking them was like opening presents on my birthday. \r\n\r\nStudents were able to get folders on the first day of math. They were excited to choose their color. We have started using the grid paper every week for their independent practice. This paper helps students learn how to organize and show their work. They use the folders to keep their papers. I have a pencil parking lot where students can borrow a pencil. Since it's math, they erase their mistakes which makes the pencil-top erasers be used quickly. Again, with your donation, they can use the erasers to put on their pencils. \r\n\r\nWhy do your donations matter? A girl asked for an eraser during class. When class was over, she came to return it, and I told her that she could keep it. The smile and thank you was the sweetest thing! The students also are quite protective of their folders and get upset if they cannot find it. It makes me smile since they realize they need it be prepared for class. These seem like no big deal items, but they impact the learning in my classes. It helps me knowing that students have access to headphones to watch Khan Academy lessons or other videos without too much distraction. I can use the whiteboards as a quick check of understanding and graphing practice without using lots of paper. \r\n\r\nMy students were so excited to be able to use the whiteboards in the math! The headphones were a hit too! Students could listen to lessons without the extra noise or being embarrassed if their particular lesson was not at grade level. I have used the Prize Box materials in several ways; students were thrilled to see the Takis, especially, and I saw genuine change in behavior over something as simple as spicy chips!\r\n\r\nPrimarily, I use the Prize Box as a reward system for my students. When we have a review challenge for an upcoming test, the table with the most points can all get a prize from the box. Other days, the student with the most pages annotated at the end of a lesson may get a prize for \"locking in\" on that day's work.\r\n\r\nOne way I have loved to use the Prize Box is for students with behavioral needs. One student, who I'll call A, has struggled to focus and believe in himself this year. His other teachers and I decided that he would have a behavior tracker, and with good enough scores at the end of the day, could have a prize from my box. The iPad has been a tremendous help in the classroom. I had been able to take attendance, give PBIS points, use Google Translate, use the camera to take pictures, and so much more. \r\n\r\nStudents like that I am able to have the iPad to translate on the go. Students also like that I can give PBIS points as I'm walking around. \r\n\r\nStudents are intrigued as I walk around with the iPad since this is a new tool for me to use.
