Many of the instruments we have have not been properly serviced in over a decade, and there are a lot of issues we are learning how to DIY on the FLY. It is vital that they learn how to properly clean/maintain what they have to avoid further damage. My original plan was to create cleaning cloths by sewing hand-made bean bags and string onto strips of baby cloth. The cleaning kits you provided gave them legitimate tools to maintain and be PROUD of what they're making music on. They were not very impressed at first, because they did not understand. Now that they have used these kits a few times, they can easily see how each use makes the music easier. The kits are expected to be returned with their instrument at the end of the year, and can be sanitized/reused for many more students to come.\r\n\r\nThe valve/slide oil is used daily, and allows them to continue to make music on their horns. \r\n\r\nThe CLEANING SOLUTION has been *ahem* INSTRUMENTAL to our success. All of these instruments needed a thorough cleaning, which is something generally left to professionals. However, we are making the most with what we've got. I've given seven horns a proper bath, and the kids are amazed at how much better they can play without decades of gunk built up inside.\r\n\r\nI am so truly grateful for this project. My expectation is not to create music majors; it is to establish how gratifying it can be to consistently \"do the hard thing.\" I am a firm believer that music education builds better brains - right/left brain activity is a skill that will serve these students throughout their entire lives.","fullyFundedDate":1787320653602,"projectUrl":"project/making-the-best-out-of-what-weve-got/10493432/","projectTitle":"Making the Best Out of What We've Got!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Snook","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10595238_orig.jpg?crop=3526,3526,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1787422928144","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10595238"},{"teacherId":10176889,"projectId":9595173,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for generously funding my junior high art classroom project. Because of your kindness, my students were able to complete a full paper-quilling unit an experience that many of them had never had before. The supplies you provided allowed them to explore a new art form that required patience, creativity, and attention to detail. The impact was incredible: students who often rush through assignments slowed down and took pride in their craftsmanship, while others who struggle to stay engaged found themselves excited to come to class and create. Their finished designs were beautiful, and the sense of accomplishment they felt was even greater. Your generosity not only supplied materials but also opened the door to confidence, creativity, and joy in the art room.
